What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have been living alone with my children for ten months now from the time I separated with my husband. My only way to find food is through farming although I do not harvest a lot since the soil here relies heavily on fetilizer which I never buy. The little I harvest to feed the children ,I complement it by doing pieceworks around the village so as to make some money for buying daily necessities. My main priority for this money is to build a better house for me and my children. The other house which we were staying in fell down due to the heavy rains in December. Part of the money will also be used to buy some basic necessities such as food, beddings, mattress and other proper utensils so that I prepare my food in a safe manner. I am very happy to be enrolled in this program as now my life will improve than ever before.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My days are never different as long as am in this village. My typical day starts with going to nearby fields which were already harvested looking for edible plants to act as relish for the nsima we always have as a staple food. If am lucky enough to do piecework and earn some money, I buy fish or any other good relish from the nearest market. This means eating everyday with my kids makes me very happy, even once per day is okay.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
In this village, there has been an increase in lawlessness over the past six months. This is threatening when I consider myself being a woman who is living with small children. Since this house in poor shape,I stand a high chance of the little belongings I have to get stolen. The house also put our lives at risk as it can be easily blown away during heavy rain and strong winds. Hence, my inability to have a good house is my biggest hardship currently.
