How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Currently, my life is different in that I have started a motorcycle taxi business which I supplement with the income I get from my salon business which was on the verge of collapsing before GiveDirectly came. Therefore lately, I have been able to provide for my family with ease especially paying school fees for my children and save as well. Through saving, I am hopeful that someday these two businesses will be sustainable and I won't have to be employed in the private sector but rather focus on my business.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life?
My additional goal is to save part of the profits I am making from the two business and start a Mpesa business with the saving because I have researched a realize this business is very lucrative in Nairobi being a cosmopolitan arrear with a lot of businesses which needs money transactions. I believe this business will also earn me an extra -income.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent my most recent transfer to settle the arrears 50000 KES that I had out of purchasing motorcycle on deposit. Buying this motorcycle purposely for motorcycle taxi business I am able to supplement with the income I get from my saloon business hence providing my family's needs is no longer a struggle like before.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is currently different from how it would have been had I never received the transfer since my child is no longer being sent back home like before. This was because the money I was getting from my salon business was little and could not cater all of my family needs. Since I was able to expand my business using my first transfers, my daily income has increased and I have been able to cater all of my family needs on time and even pay school fees for my children on time.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life?
The new goal in my life that is to open an M-pesa business. I will use the savings from my saloon and motorbike business to start this business. I settled on this because the area I stay in is densely populated and many people do M-pesa transaction daily. As a way of preparing for this, I have already printed some papers indicating that there is an m-pesa shop inside my saloon. So many people so far usually come to seek this service but I inform them that it will soon start operating and this has given me hope that this business will thrive well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent my most recent transfer. It has always been my prayer to start a motorcycle business since it is profitable. When I received my most recent transfer, I decided to save the whole amount so that I can use it together with my third transfer to buy a motorbike. This motorbike will act as my alternative source of income thus I will be able to cater for my family needs on time. My brother will be operating it and will be giving me some money on a daily basis. I am glad to start this business because it will not only profit me but also my brother

Do you have any new goals that you didn't have before receiving the transfer?
My goals now are to open up an Mpesa shop and to purchase a motorbike that can offer transport services and give me some income daily. I believe that what I make from my salon will eventually lead me to open up these businesses.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that my business is now doing well. I now have enough stock, and I am making better money that can now even pay school fees for my children. I don't have to buy products that I use on my customers from other shops now, I have my own products in the salon and I make more money now.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent my transfer to add stock in my salon, these included hair braids and beauty products. I own a salon where I live in Mlango Kubwa village in Mathare. I have struggled with restocking for a while as I have to spend extra money to buy products such as braids whenever I have customers. I was happy with the transfers as I managed to buy my own products and now I sell these products directly to customers when they come for my services. This ensures I make more money too. There is a great difference in my business now because of the boost that I received from Give Directly. Now I make better money and I can focus on expanding my business and even opening up other branches or a different business.
Describe the moment when you started receiving transfers. How did you feel?
It was early in the morning and I had just woken up at around 8:00 AM when I saw the transfers. I was checking for time on my phone when I saw an Mpesa message in my phone. I opened the message and I realized it was the money, I was really happy and I just thanked God in my heart. My group members and I were skeptical about these transfers at first, and we only believed Give Directly after they gave us phones. But we were still not sure whether truly the transfers would come or not, but at that moment, I truly believed that the transfers were real. I was very excited on that morning that I did not even take my breakfast. I am just so grateful to Give Directly.

What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
Currently am doing hairdressing and i would want to expand this business since it's my main source of income. I would also want to open a new business of an Mpesa shop for it has always been on my mind for a while now. Thirdly i would want to save money so as to sustain these two businesses of mine for stability.
Describe your biggest worry.
My top concern is being unable to provide for my family their daily needs(food). Naturally you can convince someone otherwise once they have food, personally have encountered a challenge of lack of food whereby my mom had gone to buy food and the money got lost,we had to stay hungry since she had nowhere else to get the money. Lack of food can make someone do very bad things which can make him/her regret in future.
What are your greatest ambitions?
I would want to have a big hairdressing shop in the city Centre of Nairobi and provide more employment opportunities for other young mothers out there.
Describe your usual day. How do you spend your time?
On my usual day I Wake up very early in the morning prepare my family and normal house chores then go to open my hairdressing shop where I stay till the day ends. On my Free time I watch/listen music and sometimes take my children for a walk to have fun elsewhere.
