How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than how it would have been if I never received the transfers in that I have build a better house. I used to live in a small grass thatched house which could not host all the family comfortably. I do small scale farming and the harvest that we get is only for consumption, I didn't had an extra income to buy the building material and started building. The small amount of money that I could get was for the school fees for my children in various schools. When I received the second transfer I found it Worth to invest on building a better house. Currently I no longer fear welcoming visitors to my house because I have a spacious house. I am so much grateful for the support because GiveDirectly has changed our living standard.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion GiveDirectly does well by giving money to the poor in the community to build better houses. I do not find anything that GiveDirectly did not do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of the money I received from GiveDirectly on building a better and spacious house for my family, I also bought sofa set seats and the rest of the money I bought clothes and food.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I heard a message tone ring some minutes to seven that beautiful morning . On checking it I confirmed to have received the GD transfers I was eagerly waiting for and I was overwhelmed with joy. I immediately informed my husband who was a bit critical but on seeing the SMS he too was very excited. I couldn't hide my joy on my way to the nearest MoMo agent and everyone else I met was all smiles.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is buying building materials for my Iron roofed house.Right now, I am optimistic that my Iron roofed house will be complete in the next few months once I receive the next transfers because I now have all materials in place. Initially, I was stressed up because I couldn't afford to even buy Ironsheets but I am grateful to God and GD for making my dream come pass.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent 120USD of my transfer on building a house for my son who is now a grown up after undergoing male circumcision rite. This normally happens between November and December each year in our community and it's a requirement for them to start living in their own houses after the rite of passage. 100USD was spent on clothing for my family because it's usually hard to get money for clothing because we normally depend on small scale farming of maize, beans and pumpkins. We usually put on second hand clothes and the most expensive would not be more than 5USD. I spent 32 USD on a sack of maize because recently it had been a struggle to get food. I also bought three packets of maize seeds at 150USD and 10USD on payment of tractor for hire because it's normally hard to get farm inputs and food all at the same time. I also spent 180 dollars purchase of building materials for my own house because I still live in a grass thatched house and I want to change.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have been living in a grass thatched house for a while now. This is the same house I sleep (together with my family) as well as cook in it. It always gets so uncomfortable to my children when I am cooking and they are in their sleep because of huge smoke from the firewood I use to cook. The same house also leaks a lot and during rainy seasons we are forced to sit up at night because of leakages from almost every corner. If I get lucky to be enrolled I will build a better house for my family.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I thank God for each passing day. I am happy when I get to see a brand new day. I am happy in the morning and I am always grateful to God for keeping me on His wake up list.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced in my life is having to feed my family. We depend on farming and with unpredictable weather conditions lately, we have been getting losses year in, year out. We grow maize and beans but prolonged droughts have seriously affected us. Personally, I got only half a sack of maize from the 1 acre piece of land that I farm. This is hardly enough to feed my family of 5 members.
