How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My goal is to look for contract jobs and work towards completing my house. The funds played a major role in fulfilling one of my long-term goals. I hope that as we usher in the new year. My family will move to a new home
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly is one organization that is unique in its way of supporting poor families. Through the lump sum funds, they have enabled most of us to achieve long-term goals in a short time. The funds have been a major impact on the development of the area and my request would have been to have more funds allocated to us to complete some of our incomplete projects.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I am a masonry, married with five children. I have been living in a thatched mud house since I married my wife. When I got enrolled, the first transfer enabled me to build a blockhouse from the foundation to the installation of window panes. I spent the second transfer of $250 to build a chicken coop because I wanted my wife to start chicken rearing. I paid off a debt of $50 and the remaining cash was used to buy new doors and other building materials for my two-roomed house and the toilet.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received my transfer, I was at the construction site where I work as a masonry. Then suddenly, I heard my phone ringing, Upon checking I realised that I had received money from Segovia technologies. Words cannot express the immense joy that I felt. This is because I knew that with the fund I would be able to achieve my goals. I then called my wife who was at home and broke the good news to her. She was equally happy and excited. I am grateful for the that uplifted our lives.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life today is that I was able to build a decent house for my family with my initial transfer. It is an achievement because it was not easy before due to the high cost of living and school fees responsibilities. Receiving support from GiveDirectly has been of great impact on my life thus I am forever grateful for the unconditional transfer that lifted our living standards amazingly in a way that we could not have imagined.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I am a masonry, married and blessed with five children. My goal was for me to be able to build a decent house for my family. I was unable to achieve this before due to financial constraints as a result of school fees responsibilities. Fortunately, I received the unconditional transfer, where I opted to use all the KES 55,000 in building a house. I knew that this was a huge sacrifice to do with my money but it was worth every risk. My wife was in support, thus it made things smooth. Receiving money from GiveDirectly has lifted our lives amazingly thus we are forever grateful.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I own a half-acre of land alongside the road and I aim to build a rental house when I receive this transfer. It has been about two years since I bought the plot due to lack of money I decided to save the little that I get for my project to begin. Thanks for the GiveDirectly project, it will hasten the accomplishment of my dream. For that reason, I intend to use the first and second transfers to construct the house so that when I collect the rental money it will help me in educating my children at the same time to cater to the household needs in the future.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Since the year began my family are in good health. This gives me joy and energy to work hard each and every day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
A reliable source of income is the challenge that I currently face. I am a class seven dropout where I started working immediately after school to take care of my parents. In those days I thought it was the right decision to make but twelve-fifteen years later that's when I realized I ruined my future. I do casual jobs in town and my family is here in the village whatever I get it's not enough for me and the family at home. The sad thing is that the work that I do cannot be predicted. It stresses me when I receive a call from home requesting money for their upkeep.
