How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
At the moment I do not have any new goals. This is because I plan on concentrating on the poultry project that I initiated earlier.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly has empowered us financially by giving out unrestricted cash. Many people's lives have been empowered and lifted highly. We are glad that the transfer brought unity among us thus we are forever grateful. So far I have not witnessed anything that was not done well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Receiving money from GiveDirectly has been of significant impact on our lives. This is because I was able to pay school fees of KES 18,000 for my younger brother who is at the University. Secondly, I started a poultry farming project with a sum of KES 18,000 to boost my daily income. And lastly, I bought foodstuffs for my family. I was unable to achieve the above due to financial constraints. This is because I used to work as a shepherd which attracts little income I am married and blessed with one child. I am grateful for the support that lifted my living standards highly.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received my transfer, It was early in the morning when I was at home enjoying a cup of tea. Then suddenly I heard my phone ringing and vibrating loudly. Upon checking I realised that I had received money from GiveDirectly. I was so overwhelmed with joy because I knew that I would be able to accomplish my goals in a short time. I am grateful for the support that gave has an opportunity for us to uplift our lives.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I was able to build a decent house for my family. Which I was unable to build before due to financial constraints. Secondly, I own a dairy cow in which I am hopeful that I would be able to sell its proceeds in future. I have been able to accomplish my dreams in a short period hence I am grateful to the organization for putting smiles on our faces and for transforming our living standards amazingly
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
When I received my initial transfer, I was equally overjoyed because I knew that I would be able to construct a decent house for my family. I was unable to build it due to financial constraints since I am a local businessman. Therefore I used a sum of KES 21,100 on the construction. Secondly, I purchased a dairy cow worth KES 18,000. Lastly, I used the remaining amount on buying foodstuffs and clothes. I am happy to have achieved so much in a short time.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I am a business man and I buy and sell poultry during market days. This has been my source of income for 2 years now. I earn an average KES.1500 per week as my net profit since the market day happens once in a week. My capital for the business has stagnated at KES.4000 considering that we use the profit to purchase our daily basic needs. Receiving this money comes with joy in the as our ambition of venturing in hardware business as come to reality. I therefore plan to spend KES.70,000 for startup stock and use the remaining to pay for 4 months rent.
What is the happiest part of your day?
For the past three months, I have been unwell. I had developed chest problem to an extend that I could not provide for my family. I tried seeking for medication but because of financial constraints I could not afford proper medication. Recently I was given herbal remedies that really brought a drastic change to my health.I am happy that I can execute my duties comfortably.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The main challenge that we currently face is food insecurity in my household. This is because I earn as little as KES.1500 in a week. The amount is not enough to provide for my family of four. I have 3 siblings whom I support in paying for their school fees and it has been a challenge to me. The businesses of opening a hardware will bring a great impact in the family.
