How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
The biggest difference in my life is that I have started a poultry farming project and the income I get from the sale of eggs is enough to meet all my family basic needs and I no longer struggle to buy food as I used to do in the past. I have enough milk for my family since I used my first transfer to buy a dairy cow and I no longer buy milk and I can now save the money I could have used to buy milk and use to meet other family basic needs. I also sell the surplus to earn income. I also have a spacious house to accommodate all my family members since we used to squeeze in a small room before I received my transfer. I also leased a piece of land and planted maize and I am optimistic that I will have a good harvest hence enough food supply for my family.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Give Directly does well by giving out unconditional cash and also the enrollment process is fair and they deliver their promises by sending money directly to the households. In my opinion, I do not see anything that Give Directly does not do well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I used part of my transfer to expand my tailoring business. I bought more stock and a sewing machine. This business was not doing so well since I did not have enough textile materials but now it is doing well since I used part of my transfer to buy more textile materials and my customers can now get all the designs they need. I can now provide enough food to my family using the income from the business and I no longer struggle to buy food. I also used part of my transfer to lease a piece of land and planted maize since my piece of land is small and not enough to do farming and for a long time I have been struggling to buy food. I also used the remaining amount to build a new house since the one we used to live in was small and could not accommodate all my family members comfortably.
