How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
At the moment I have no plan to start a new goal since I am still working on the new business that I started with the first transfer. My husband is also busy running his new retail business in town. We don't have a new plan at the moment but working hard to ensure that both the businesses we started are doing well.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly is doing a great job to alleviate every member of the villages they are visiting out of poverty. Everyone enrolled in the program has so far registered great differences in their households. I appreciate the effort by GiveDirectly that helped us, and I am wishing them the best as they move to the next villages.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
On receiving the second transfer, I spent KES 42000 on starting a retail business that is currently run by my husband in Nakuru town. Previously, he was working in the quarries around and the casual labor that was never consistent. I was happy when he suggested that I start my own first with the first transfer, and the second transfer came when I also wanted to see him Workington his job instead of the casual labor that he was used to. The proceeds are relatively good at the moment and even though he is barely some months old in the business, he is always happy with the progress as he makes better earnings compared to the work he used to do. With the remaining KES 10000, I was able to buy household goods that involved a piece of furniture, water containers, and also foodstuff that I keep replenishing anytime we exhaust what we have. Both businesses are now single great, and I am relieved of the stress we used to undergo to put food on the table.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received the transfer I felt so happy. I remember it was around 10am. I left to the farm around 9am. I had left my child at home so around 10am I went back to check the child, that's when I decided to check my phone little did I know there was money sent from GiveDirectly. When I saw hVe message I could not believe my eyes. It was a message confirming that I have received money from GiveDirectly. I felt so happy and immediately informed my family members and they all celebrated with lots of joy. I knew I would be able to invest on the goats rearing project thag I had always wished to start. I am so grateful because GiveDirectly has changed our living standards and enabled us to fulfilled our dreams.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have purchased four goats. This is the project that I had always wished to own but I didn't had the money. Goats rearing is the best investment. It's easy managed and does not require much capital to start. I depend on small small scale farming and the amount of money that I get through this is so small and it's only for household basic needs and school fees for my children. I didn't had the extra money to save so that I can start a goats rearing project. When I received the transfer I felt so happy and found this as an opportunity to invest on the goats rearing. Currently I have four goats. I love this project because goats reproduce faster and helps during an emergency. They give birth twice per year. I gonna sell some go pay school fees for my children. I am so happy because I have achieved one of my main dream. I have devoted much of my time on this amazing project and it has given me hope to work much better and improve it in the next five years go come. I am so grateful for the support because GiveDirectly has enabled us to fulfilled our dreams.

I depend on small small scale farming. This used to earn me small income by selling the farm produce. I spent some amount on building a house for the goats, bought food and clothes for my children. Were it not GiveDirectly all this could not have happened. I am so grateful for the support because GiveDirectly has changed our living standards.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means end of unstable source of income. I used to depend on small business of selling clothes as my main source of income, due to an unavoidable Circumstances I spend the capital on meeting my family basic needs. Currently, we depend on my spouse who does casual jobs. He receives around KES 400 per day that is not enough to meet school fees, and other family basic needs. God willing I receive this transfers, my desire is to invest on livestock keeping. I have opted for this because of it's faster reproductive and product will earn me income in the future. Around KES 50,000 is enough to purchase a dairy cow and two Sheep. The rest of the Money I will use in building a better kitchen and start poultry keeping.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Though we are struggling to meet our family basic needs, the safety, good health and peace we have is what gives me greatest joy in my life. This gives me energy to wake up every morning ready for my usually daily household chores.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The challenge we are currently facing is unstable source of income. The small business I used to have collapse a month a go because I diverted the capital to meet payment of school fees of my child and purchasing food. This has forced to depend only on my spouse who does casual jobs thats is not enough to raise a family of four.
