How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Once I bought the motorbike I was able to start a bodaboda business. The cash I get daily is enough to provide for my family's basic needs. This has really changed my life and that of my family in a way that we didn't expect.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly is the best thing that has ever happened to us as a family and also to my fellow village mates. It is through GiveDirectly that we have been able to build houses, buy herds of cattle, educate our children, start business among others.
GiveDirectly has really upgraded our livelihoods by helping us with these transfers.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
With these transfers, I was able to buy a motorbike that has been so helpful in my family. I started a bodaboda business that I run daily. My family and I are now assured of having all our daily basic needs met with so much ease.
I also managed to buy two goats and also did finish up with building my house by putting the floor. We now sleep in a much descent house and we're so thankful for this great help that we have received from GiveDirectly.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment when I received my transfer I felt so happy and relieved at the same time. For a longer period I have been trying to work on some projects but they never succeeded. When I received the money I knew I was finally going to complete my projects.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is the pride and happiness I have for having constructed a bigger house. The previous house was such a shame to stay in but since I did not have a choice I had to stay in it. I will forever be grateful to Give Directly for enabling me to achieve this.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent the first transfer on the building materials which I have already used to construct a new house. The previous house was too small, just a single room that could not fit the three of us. I am glad I now have a two bedrooms house and we now have some privacy. Aportion of the money I spent on a goat for rearing as away if investing for the future. Since goats doesn't require much attention and finances I find it easy to maintain.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have just started my family and my house is very tiny(one room). I plan to use 250 USD to build a two bedroom house. I will then use 300 USD to buy 10 goats and 1 cow. Livestock farming is a good venture since they multiply very fast. I will therefore be sorted in times of emergency since I will be having livestock sell. The cow will also be providing milk for us.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning. I am more active during the morning hours before the scorching sun starts to hit. I work better in the morning which automatically translates to more income. As a motorcycle taxi rider,I wake up at 6 am and get back home at 8pm.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I am a motorcycle taxi driver who is employed. The income I get per day is around 3 USD since I have to give half of what I get to the motorcycle owner. With the high cost of living,this is only enough to get food for the day for my family. I will soon become a father and my biggest worry is taking care of all the family's needs with the little income that I get. I dropped out of school in my second year of secondary due to lack of school fees. I had to drop out so that my elder siblings could complete their studies. Securing meaningful employment is what has been my biggest hardship.
