How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Hawking business has been my main source of income for the past year. Before then, I used to rely on casual work for survival. All the same, the income from the two ways has not been very helpful and my life has never changed financially. I knew the only way to change my financial life is to have a good business. Before I get the business, I got GD transfers which has really changed my financial life, in as much as the difference is not big enough but I don't borrow anymore, I have some amount which I have saved and generally, I have increased income because of the transfers. I know my life will be much better when I get a good business.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life?
My new goal is to start a stable business. I have been relying on income from hawking business which has always been very unreliable. I always spend my profits on a daily basis and start afresh the following day. I would not want to continue in the same way hence I plan to start a stable business with GD transfers.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent my transfer on buying school requirements such as books, pens and socks for my sister who was reporting back to school in the new year. My mother had requested for my help on the same. The rest of the transfer I used to pay back a debt I had taken from a friend to buy food in the course of last month. I had run out of what to eat and could not stay with hunger hence I decided to borrow and payback with the transfers.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Currently, my life is different from how it was before Give Directly came in that I can now provide for my family with ease. Since from the boosted business, the profits are enough to sustain us compared to before when I relied on casual jobs in the construction sites which were unreliable. This meant that I could stay three days a week with no job hence forcing me to borrow from friends and I didn't like the situation at all.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life?
My additional goal for my life for the next four months is to continue saving. I will then take and loan and add to my savings then build a permanent structure as my shop. I am tired hawking and running away from policy reinforcement officers.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent my recent transfers to boost my business of selling clothes. I felt this was the best business since no one was doing it yet the demand was very high. I used part of of it to pay school fees for my children. I finally saved the remaining amount because I know it will come in handy in future especially when an emergency arises

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Currently, my life is different from how it was in that my living standards have improved. I am also able to take care of my emergencies and debts easily. Before the transfer, repaying loans and debts was difficult but I am glad that I am a free man and focused on doing my long term goals just because nowadays my business is doing well after boosting it with the GiveDirectly's transfer.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life?
My new goal is to open a boutique. I feel that business is what I can do well. With a good relationship with the college students, I have been able to sustain my current business and I know that it will even get better when I have a strategic business structure where all customers will be able to get all that they need in one place.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of my transfer on boosting my business. I have been depending on this business for some time now but it was not doing well. Most of my customers are students and they love a variety of fashion. I have to ensure that I restoke whatever they need so as to get money when I deliver on time. I am grateful that I was able to facilitate this with the help of the transfer. I also used some amount on transport to and from Town where I normally do my business and finally kept the remaining amount as savings.

Do you have any new goals that you didn't have before receiving the transfer?
The goal that I have is to be able to own my own home and even build apartments for people to rent out. I have lived in Mathare for 5 years and I got inspired in the near future to provide affordable, secure and good quality houses. This will improve the living standards of the people in Mathare.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference is that currently, I have savings and my future is partly secured given that part of the money that I receive on a monthly basis goes to my savings. Before I did have any savings and my future was not guaranteed.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
When I received my last payment, I used part of the amount to pay rent for my boutique that I had started operating a year ago. The amount helps me settle the premises rent hence giving me ease in operating the boutique.
Describe the moment when you started receiving transfers. How did you feel?
When I received this transfer, I felt so happy and relieved. I knew paying rent for my business premises was no longer going to be a problem like it used to before the transfers.

What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
My first priority will be renting a shop for my business because am using a stand for my clothing business, I find it to be tricky where I have to pack and unpack and also carrying the load daily. Second priority i will start a poultry business, because of festive season where demand is usually high. Third priority I will use the part of transfers by lending it to people so as to earn interest.
Describe your biggest worry.
My top concern is drug abuse because when one is taking this heavy drugs, it becomes an addiction where lots of money will be spent due to demand in drugs, even supporting their family it usually hard, these is the main reason why we have street children in our country because they have no one to look after them.
What are your greatest ambitions?
I would like to be rich a person, because my passion is to help needy people, it usually disturb me when seeing people with no food and shelter but according to life that I have now, "I can't even rescue a single fly", this is the main why I wanted to be a rich.
Describe your usual day. How do you spend your time?
I usually don't have free time due to business that am doing, where I have to work hard so that I can meet my daily targets, the only time I consider to be free is on Sunday where I usually volunteer by waking up at 6:00am, Clean the church and arrange the chairs till mass start which is 10:00am and ends at 1:00pm, after I will go home and take lunch then head to my business.
