How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different from how it was in that, I have achieved most of my goals. I have started building a house, expanded my poultry farming and bought another cow. If it were not for GiveDirectly, I could have struggled to achieve all this by now. My gratitude goes to GiveDirectly.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, what I love about this organization is that it gave us an unconditional transfer. This enabled most of us to buy whatever we needed. We have better houses, paid school fees and bought livestock.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent part of my second transfer on repaying a loan. Someone had educated me but I felt like I owned him. I did not not want a back and forth argument in the future or any demands and this is what led me to make this decision. The fees amounted to 30000KES. Although I have not been asked for anything in return, I feel free. Internally, I can say that I have gained my freedom. Additionally, I bought iron sheets. My house is under construction and almost done. I thank GiveDirectly for financial support.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
Of late, farming has been very challenging because after investing, there is always a result of low output. Since it is my livelihood, taking care of my family has been stressful. However, after reviving the commercial poultry project with GiveDirectly's transfer, my daily life has changed. I am able to get an extra source of income from selling eggs and the birds. The profits have really enabled me to sustain my family's primary and secondary needs with ease. Thanks to GiveDirectly for lightening some of my financial burdens hence today I am able to live in less stress-free moments.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received my money , I had mixed reactions, I felt very happy as tears of joy rolled on my check . It is an describable moment for me since receiving this money met a lot in terms of my financial growth . I immediately told my husband who is my confidant and helper in my daily world .
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent part of my first transfer to revive my poultry rearing project that I operated before for commercial purposes . I believe this business will work out for me because I have learnt from the causes of the previous failure which has made me more experienced. I also bought a dairy cow with the intention of selling its milk and generally using the profits to provide for my family's daily needs .

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Adding one heifer to my livestock @ $350, adding more chicken to my poultry and building a modern poultry unit all at a cost of $150 is what receiving this money means to me. I will then use the remaining part of my transfer to buy food and clothes for my family
What is the happiest part of your day?
After a having a busy morning in the farm, coming back home in the afternoon to cook for my children then take a rest makes afternoon the happiest part of my day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I graduated from college 3 years ago and my spouse also graduated 6 years ago. Life has been full of struggles now that our expectations of securing employment immediately after school has been rendered futile. As a result, we now work as PTA teachers and we feel underpayed. We get a salary of 70 usd each and sometimes the payment is delayed. This is the biggest hardship we face.
