How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than it would have been if I had never received the transfer in that , I am recovering well after seeking proper health care. I am now able to do my household activities like collecting firewood and fetching water unlike before when I was not able to any chores due to the ulcers. In addition, I obtained 5 goats, with the I had started rearing them an investment for my future. Lastly, I constructed a decent shelter for my family and no longer have worry when I received visitors as I have proper shelter to house them.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly does well for sending the case grand. Through the transfer I was able to acquire proper medication.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent the transfer to purchase 20 iron sheets, building poles and timber this was for the construction of a two roomed house for my family. In the past I use to reside in a small, grass roofed house which was about to fall down. I was very ashamed especially when I received important visitors because I had to shelter them in my neighbour's house due to poor condition of my house. In addition, I spent the remaining amount to seek for proper medication by attending the scheduled check up with doctor since I was receiving ulcers treatment.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was exactly 2 PM when I received a notification message from GiveDirectly. I felt happy when I realized they had sent me the cash transfers as promised. Due to the excitement that I had, I knelt down and thanked God for sending GiveDirectly to our village.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is the fact I am now a proud owner of goats. I am hopeful that in a few months to come, they will multiply and grow healthy making me wealthier. Currently, some have stated reproducing which makes me believe that I made the best decision in purchasing them. My wish is when they multiply I will sell the matured offsprings and buy a dairy cow because, in my region, there is a high demand for milk. My plan is then to sell the milk which will be an additional income. The expansion of the sources of income will help me easily pay school fees for my children and also cater to some other basic needs for my family with ease unlike before.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of my first transfer on buying some building materials such as iron sheets, nails, and timber. This was purposely for the renovation of my house which had an old leaky roof. I also cleared some hospital bills since I have been unwell for quite a long time but I had no money to cater for the medication. In addition, to that, I bought some livestock such as four goats as living assets that I can lean on just in case of any emergency. With the remaing amount of money, I bought enough foodstuffs for my family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means I will be able to fulfill my dream of owning a spacious house. My current house is very small when my relatives comes I find it very difficult to accommodate them, forcing them to seek shelter from my neighbors. I always feel disgraced by this action. When I receive the Give directly transfers I will use 50,000 shillings to build a three-roomed house. I will also use 50,000 shillings to buy two cows and ten goats. The cows will supply me with milk to provide income while the goats will keep as a future financial emergency.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Being a charcoal vendor I usually walk far distances searching for charcoal which is tiresome because I do not have any means of transport. However, evening becomes the happiest part of my day because this is the time I feel relaxed and spend more time with family.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I had a chest problem for a very long time that sometimes makes it hard for me to breathe. I managed to visit different hospitals for treatment and some doctors advised me to do scanning and also visit a specialist. I have not been able to do the instructed things because as a charcoal vendor the income is not enough to pay for my treatment as well as building a spacious house. Therefore financial constraints is the biggest hardship I have faced in my life.
