It is just 2 days ago when my life took a different turn in my hotel business.The dispursment of GiveDirectly's funds to the neighboring village on 16 th of November 2023 gave me hope ,most of the people came to eat in the hotel and others even paid the debt they owed me.I was so glad because as compared to the past 2 months I earned 5 times the amount I used to get.The KES 4500 profit I earned on that day enabled me to settle a debt of KES 1000, buy some kitchen utensils as well as get additional grains worth KES 1200 .With this I have been able to run the business well and also have an opportunity to use the subsequent profits to source for additional food stocks.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
For the past 2 years I have been operating an hotel in the village . The revenues I earned in the beginning were so much motivating to an extent that I borrowed a loan of KES 3000 to scale up the business.As time passed by many people established the same businesses in the neighborhood leading to a stiff competition thus lesser incomes.In addition,tough economic times have also caused lesser circulation of money among the customers.This has led to them coming to the hotel to have meals on credit ,this has crippled the business because some of them pays the debt after a long time and others fail to pay it at all.This situation of poor performance in the business is making my life harder because I cannot comfortably meet the household needs as well as expand the business as I initially envisioned.The burden of debts is also slowly increasing on the side of my suppliers and this might break the trust we had built for a long time,this frightens me a lot .
