How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Keeping the goats in my compound has made my life to be totally different. With the goats, they are easier and cheaper to manage compared to other domestic animals. To add on that, they have multiple uses such as milk production, manure and many more. My plan is when they reproduce and mature I will exchange some for a dairy cow so that I can get plenty of milk and to double my income. And according to me, these are the good assets that will help me in the near future. I will be able to meet my family's basic needs with ease. Thank you God for bringing GiveDirectly in my village.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion GiveDirectly directly has been of great benefit to us in so many ways. Before GiveDirectly came to my village, we were facing so many hardships due to poverty life. But currently, everything has totally changed. Our houses are now permanent and iron-roofed. Previously we used to sleep under grass-thatched roofs which were so leaky. We are now all smiling because everything is sorted. Secondly, most of our houses now have solar panels. They are really helping us especially for our children in their night studies. Previously we were using candles and sometimes we could not even afford them. It was so stressful. Currently, our children are doing so well in school because they have adequate time both in school and at home to study. I do not see any part GiveDirectly failed us.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent part of my second transfer on purchasing two goats at KES 6000. I had to buy goats because they reproduce faster compared to other domestic animals. Meaning they will increase in number at a high rate. Giving me hopes of being wealthy very soon. With the remaining amount of money, I bought sufficient food that would take us up to the next season. My children and I have been taking a single meal or go without. This was really affecting their academic performance at school. I am a happy parent now because all is well.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
Having constructed a pit latrine makes me feel so proud of myself. I nolonger have to hide and look around everytime incase someone was seeing me whenever I go to relive my self. This is the biggest differenc ein my daily life.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
One early morning as I was busy with normal household chores I got message notification tone from my phone but since I'm not well conversant with the phone, I called my son who was nearby and asked him to read the message for me. From the smile on his face, I could tell it was a piece of good news. He then broke the good news that I had received money from GiveDirectly. It was such a joyous moment, I shared the news with my spouse, and she too couldn't hide her joy. We then planned together on how to spend the money.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I used to feel ashamed whenever I wanted to relieve my self because I didn't have a pit latrine and the only option I had was to use the nearby bushes. The moment when I received the first transfer I constructed a pit latrine and I'm now happy and proud to own it. In addition to that, I bought eight goats for rearing with a portion of the money with an aim of selling some of them after they have given birth in order to raise money for purchasing oxen. This is because currently, I experience the challenge of tilling my farm because I do it manually which consumes much of my time and at the same time I'm not able to work on a large piece which normally results to low farm yield. Two of my children who are secondary school carried forward a huge fee balance from last year and this affected their studies because in most cases they were sent back home for the school fee. Therefore I used part of the money to clear their school fee, and they now have ample time for their studies.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have always wanted to buy three cows so that I can add to the stock of two that I currently have. This is because I believe that cows have value and when they are well fed they will reproduce and I will manage to sell some of the cows at a local market in Bamba. The remaining amount will be spent on expanding my grocery business through buying more bags of kales which I can supply at our local market.
What is the happiest part of your day?
When I have enough stock of groceries in the morning, I usually head to our local market at Mwakwala in order to sell my produce when they are still fresh. This is because I am happiest when I get to the market first before the other women in order to capitalize on the sales.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Lately I have been feeling pain in my stomach and whenever I go to the hospital they have not been able to do proper diagnosis due to the fact that I cannot afford proper medical attention. This has adversely affected my business of selling groceries as at times I miss opening the business making me to incur losses.
