In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly does well in giving us the monthly support in order to improve our lives. Through it, we are now able to fulfil our financial needs with ease. This would have been difficult were it not for the support. We are grateful to GiveDirectly because our children are not staying at home for lack of fees. Also, most of us depend on subsistence farming which of late has not been doing well. Through the transfer, we are able to provide adequately for our families. So far, I do not see anything that GiveDirectly does not do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I want to thank Give Directly because the transfer came at a time when I was really struggling to provide the basic needs for my family. I depend on little earnings from my daily menial jobs to provide for my family's basic needs though not enough. When I received my first transfer I ensured my family had access to enough food since this was my major goal. I spent KES 1200 to buy foodstuffs and grains to serve us for a while. On receiving the the second transfer, I spent Ksh 1050 on buying foodstuffs for my family as well. Secondly I spent part of the remaining transfer on medication because I was not feeling well. Finally, I spent the remaining Ksh 1000 to purchase four chicken for my poultry business. I thought of these business because it will act as my future financial security. In addition it's less costly when it comes to managing, they reproduce very fast and in large numbers when taken care of well. I am very optimistic that very soon they will reproduce and I'll sell them in case of a financial need like school fees for my children.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I sell palm wine and that has been the business that sustained me for most parts of my life but business has drastically deteriorated due to poverty. That day I went ahead to sell my wine as I did normally and by the time I was back in the evening I saw the message that the money had arrived way earlier that day. I was exhausted from all the work I had done and not having made enough money but I was so happy that I had extra money in my pocket from the funds that I now had.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
I mostly relied on my job to make money but like I mentioned earlier the business itself has really deteriorated and at time I do not make money at all so I am glad that through the funds I received I could manage to even get a meal for myself and also pay for my sons medical bill.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Matters of nutrition and nourishment have been quite a problem this year in my family because the years back we would manage to till the land, plant crops and harvest which kept us going throughout the year. But this year was different and hard because we barely received any rain and in turn all the crops died so having a meal was quite a struggle. After I received the money I proceeded to buy five packets of maize flour worth KES 500 and a kilogram of sugar which was KES 100. Also on top of that my son unfortunately fell ill and so I helped him pay for the medical bill which cost me KES 500 since he went to private hospital.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I plan to expand my house to a two roomed house. Where I lay my head at night is the same place I rare my chicken and outside I run my business. I need more space and better structures. I will buy iron sheets to roof my house and a piece of land where I can farm.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The past months have been hard, the business has been down but the fact that I am alive and well is reason enough to be happy.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I am a business lady, I sell beer and currently business has gone down. There are days I lack the product and my customers have to go without. This affects my daily income making it hard to afford food at times.
