Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I felt so happy the moment I received money from GiveDirectly. It was around 7:00pm and I was with my children. I was randomly checking my phone only to find that GiveDirectly had finally made good their promise of sending us money. I was expecting the money and throughout the day I had been anxious. I shared the good news with my children who were seated with me at that time and they too were very happy. This was actually like a dream to me and I even said a prayer after confirming that I had received the money.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference is the things that I have been able to acquire. For a long time I have had a desire to buy livestock and I now have hope for an even brighter future for my children. I have plans of purchasing a piece of land once I get my second transfer. The livestock that I bought will go a long way in making sure that we are in a position to not only make ends meet in our family but even educate our children. This money has renewed my hopes of seeing my children get better education and be like other children and have a better future.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used KES 48000 to buy livestock in form of goats and a dairy cow. I used another KES 1500 to pay school fees for my children and the remaining amount was used to buy clothes and food for my children. I am a single mother of four and I have been relying on small business of selling firewood to make income. The income that I made from the small business would just be enough to feed my family and I would often be left with very little to save and make such huge investments. I am happy that I was finally able to buy a cow and now I will no longer be forced to buy milk which is a very costly affair.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I'm a single mother of four and I'm happy that this money will help educate my children. I always buy milk worth KES 100 per day. This is so expensive given that I don't have a stable job. I'll use part of the money to buy a cow for us to get enough supply of milk. I'll also build a nice and specious house for my family. The one we are living in is small and too old.
What is the happiest part of your day?
When we heard in Aprilthat we will be enrolled by Give Directly I was so happy. I have been praying for this for a long time and it was like a dream come true.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Buying milk for consumption is a challenge to me. I have young children who cannot survive without it. Milk is currently very expensive and I must work hard to buy it at KES 100 every day.
