How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
At the moment, the difference in my life is owning a home. I used the first transfers to buy building materials such as iron sheets, timbers, and nails which helped me to establish my own home. Currently, I live peacefully since I do not have to always give reports to anyone regarding any visitor that comes to my home. While I was staying in my father's compound, he constantly wanted me to update him of all the details of the visitors who could come to my house. I thank God for GiveDirectly, at last, my family has gotten the freedom we have been yearning for.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly does well in giving direct cash to its recipients without imposing any condition to them. It is a non- bureaucratic NGO which in history has succeeded to reach out to the most poor within our villages, who for a long time had been sidelined by the government programs. Although the programs of GiveDirectly are very good, it has so far not incorporated the aspect of giving support to the registered groups with good development records.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent the second transfer on buying a new bed, two mattresses as well as our beddings. The ones we were using at first were old and we were no longer feeling comfortable to use them. However, poverty pushed us to continue using them even in such a condition. I also spent my transfer on buying a steel door and three steel windows which I fixed on the house that I had built with the first transfer but was still incomplete. Lastly, I used the balance to buy three sets of chairs which have transformed the outlook of my house. My lifestyle has indeed changed from worse to better.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference is that I now have my own home something that I had longed for. At my age, it was embarrassing to be seen staying in my fathers home with my family. I had not paid my wife's bridal price 5 years now and this never gave me peace of mind. Eventually I managed to settle that thanks to GD.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was very happy. I had longed to build a house in my own compoundbut lacked resources. Upon receiving the money I knew this was finally going to be accomplished and the embarrassment I have had will come to an end.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
Upon receiving my first transfer, I build a house next to my father's compound where I now call my home. Previously I used to live in a mad grass thatched house in my father's compound. This was embarrassing given that my younger brothers had their own homes. Besides that, I bought two cows and hired a track to transport them to my father-in-law as a bridal price which I had not finished paying because of lack of finances.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
My desire has been to have my own home where I can peaceful live with my children. This money will therefore help me to buy materials which I will use to build a descent semi-permannet house in my own piece of land.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening when I am done with my farm activities such as cutting sugarcane. I feel more refreshed whenever I accomplish the daily assigned work and able to earn some wages that can be used to purchase food for my family. Moreover, I feel happy whenever I enjoy meals together with the rest of my family.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I face in life is financial constraints since my family has spent all my financial resources in seeking for medication of my daughter. She has been bedridden for the past three years. Her sickness has made me to forget joy and happiness. However, I still believe that with God all things will be well.
