Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
In December 2021 around the morning hours, I was selling at my house when I heard one of my neighbors saying that GiveDirectly has sent us money so everyone should go to a network location to check their phones. I hurriedly left my business at the house and when to the network location to check my phone, when I checked my mobile money account, I saw my money that was sent by GiveDirectly for the first time, I felt so happy because I knew it is a great help for my family.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
From the beginning of this school year, I was so worried about my children school fees because my husband is very sick and I don't have anyone else to help me with my children. This first transfer was a blessing to me and my children because I was able to settle their school fees and other expenses. This is the biggest difference in my life since I started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used my first transfer to pay my two children school fees, I also improved the business that I am doing with some of the money, I have been going through a lot of challenges with my business for some time now but hoping that things will get better through the little improvement, the balance was used to buy food for the family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
If my household is successful to receive the cash transfer, we will build our own house, because the house we are living in now is a family house. We have anticipated long time to build our own house but we have not been able to raise money for that. The cassava pitch we can make to sell and raise the money, the cassava doesn't have good price again. When we even processed the cassava to fufu and take it to the market, still we don't earn much from it because the price has dropped as I said. And also, most time people don't buy it cash down. They take it to pay at later date. And sometimes the money is not pay at all. As the result of all of those, we had not been able to raise enough for our planed project.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Yes, we have been happy and still happy now for three reasons: 1. The fact that we can afford meal to eat, although not how we want it, we are very for that because some families can't afford that little that we can. 2. The fact that the life is there and we are well in the body , we are very happy for that too. 3. And lastly, for the past five months my husband was was very sick that couldn't even walk. But since the middle of September up to today's date, he is doing very well- he's walking around freely, something he has never done for the five months.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The major challenge we having here is how to raise money to support the family. And almost everything we do here is just to raise money to provide food for the family. We considered money as a challenge because the activities( producing coal and fufu for sale) we do here to raise money is not booming again. The prices have dropped drastically. And all those work are all physical work that are hard to do as a female. My husband that used to do those work is sick for over 6 months now and not doing any physical work. So for that, to raise money has been a serious challenge for the household.
