How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I plan on starting a retail shop next to my house, where I would be able to weave the ropes and also sell most of the household items. To realise this goal, I plan on using the $100 that I had saved from my second transfer. I believe that this would be the only assurance that my children would have to ensure that I cater to their basic needs.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Our living conditions have improved thanks to GiveDirectly's assistance. We were given the freedom to decide how to spend our money. We will always be appreciative of the kind act the organization fulfilled for us. We found no difficulties or issues that required correction because, in my opinion, the organization was well-organized.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I depend on weaving ropes to earn my livelihood and I sell them at a nearby market every week. I earn an average income of $40 per month. Though, I took a break maternity break. I am a single mother of two and still living in my father's Land. It has been my wish to start purchasing a parcel of land where I would be able to farm. Though this was a challenge because of the financial constraints, what I make from my business was only enough to cater for our daily needs. There, I used $400 from my second transfer to acquire a parcel of land. I then saved the remaining $100. The organization has amazingly lifted my living standards, thus I am grateful.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It thrilled me to receive a message confirming the receipt of the first transfer from GiveDirectly. I was at the hospital at that moment after the delivery of my second-born baby, and even though I could not celebrate in the ward, I was grateful and thanked God for the timely financial support. I had to wait for my father to visit whom I entrusted with the responsibility of cashing out the money in the immediate shopping center.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is the purchase of a dairy cow that has since provided my family with enough milk. I used to struggle a lot to meet the cost of a daily liter of milk, but glad that I bow have enough when I cannot move out to secure some casual labor since my newborn is still young to be left at home.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
It was double joy in my family when I received the first transfer and gave birth to my second-born child on the same day. Thanks to the free maternity provided by the public hospitals because I would have spent all the money on seeking the services and the medication I needed right after. In my mind, all the plans I had laid down never changed. I spent KES 45000 on a lactating dairy cow that has since been providing us with enough milk. Previously, I would always spend at least KES 50 every morning for a liter of milk since my kid is still young, but I am glad that I don't have to spend again after buying a cow. I spent the remaining amount on buying household goods, equipped my newborn baby with new pairs of clothes and other utilities, and saved the remaining amount for other daily expenses.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I am the first-born daughter in a family of seven. I was not able to proceed with my studies after I completed my primary school education due to a lack of finances. I had to work odd jobs including picking tea in Kericho to support my family and my siblings. Six months ago, I lost this job after we were retrenched, I came home and have been doing casual jobs like weddings. The much I earn KSH 500 a week goes to food and paying for school. With this money, I plan to purchase a piece of land of my own so that I can build a house and do my own farming. With the rest of the money I plan to purchase a cow to help supplement my income. Receiving this money is such a relief for me.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I planted maize in a piece of a small piece of land. They are almost ripe to be harvested. I'm happy that in the next month, I will not buy maize I will be harvesting on my own farm.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The main challenge is the lack of finances. I do not have a stable source of income as the casual jobs I usually do are unsustainable. Besides my self and my son in school, I have to support my siblings by paying part of their school fee.
