My new goal is to build a shop next to our compound. In this shop, I will be selling industry goods such as foodstuffs and other basic household needs. The goal is to diversify our sources of income and better our living standards as a family. This idea came about because of the gap that I saw within our village, people travel for quite a long distance to buy these commodities. The motorcycle that we bought has enabled us to accumulate enough money from my husband's masonry work since his mobility has been enhanced. We are only waiting for him to be paid for some work that he recently undertook and we will be able to use the money to start off this business. The success of this project will be largely attributed to the support we received from GiveDirectly and we will be very happy and grateful about this.

In my opinion GiveDirectly did very well by enrolling all of us without any form of bias and discrimination. Moreover, I thought it was very wise for the organisation to give us freedom to choose how we were going to spend our money. It goes without say that this brought so much joy to each and every person that received money from GiveDirectly. On the other hand, I did not find anything bad with how GiveDirectly operations were carried out.

I used KES 35000 to buy a second hand motorcycle for my husband. The motorcycle was much needed by him for his mobility at work since he does masonry. A lot of opportunities had slipped through him because he did not have a means of transport but at least he has the ability to move around quite easily and make a living for us through this job. I used another KES 10000 to buy two goats that I now keep in our compound. The decision to buy these goats was to make sure that we have an alternative source of income too just in case we are faced with an emergency or something of the sort. They also easily multiply making it a very good savings plan. The punt that was left of this money was used to buy food and other basic household needs for our family. We are so much indebted to GiveDirectly for the support that we received.

I was working on my farm when at 9 a.m I received a message notification. I checked my phone and saw that I had received the cash transfer I had been expecting from GiveDirectly. I cannot explain how happy I felt. I looked forward to building a new house for my family.

Since receiving the transfer from GiveDirectly, our lives have improved amazingly. Before, we lived in a small, single-room house that could barely accommodate all five of us. Since my family did not own any livestock, we had to buy milk at KES 60, every day. This put financial strain on us, because I am unemployed and do not have a source of income. So I spent KES 35,000 on buying a dairy cow that could supply us with milk. I also spent KES 18,000 on completing the construction of our new spacious house, since the one we previously lived in was too small.
