How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
After achieving all the plans that I had for both my first and second transfer, I do not have any new goals. I am focusing more on the projects that I started with my transfers. I am grateful for the support from Givedirectly.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Givedirectly came at the right time I needed help. I appreciate the support I got and even everyone in my village is appreciating the work done by Givedirectly. I don't have any complaints.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Upon receipt of my second transfer, I purchased a dairy cow worth KES 35,000. I had sold all the livestock I had towards catering for school feed for my children. I am happy that now have a cow that produces milk for consumption and also it has saved us the expense of buying milk. With KES 10,000 I used to clear arrears for my children in high school. All my three children were able to study without being sent home. With the remaining amount, I spent buying maize and clothes for my six family members.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received the transfer I felt so happy. I remember it was around 10 am, I was taking care of the cows. I heard a ringtone message from my phone. I didn't expected any messages from anyone so I reluctantly check it. I could not even believe my eyes. It was a message confirming that I have received money from GiveDirectly. I felt so happy and overwhelmed with joy. I rushed home to inform my family members. Everyone celebrated the good news. I went and withdrew the money the same day and pay the school fees since my children were sent fome that time.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have paid school fees for my two children in secondary school. I am so happy because my children were able to study well without being sent home to collect the fees. Their performance improved compared to previous terms since the had enough time to study. We do casual jobs and small farming project. We were not able to clear the school fees on time and this made the school to sent the children home. Since we didn't had some saving, our children could stay home for some time and this was affecting their performance since lessons were on going. I am so grateful now because they fees for this academic term is cleared. My children are so happy too and they have promised to work hard in School.Thid has given me chance to save for next academic term. GiveDirectly has enabled me to educate my children.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent KES 41,000 to pay school fees for my two children in secondary school. I am so grateful because GiveDirectly enabled me to clear the balance and my children were not sent home to collect the fess. The rest of the money I bought food and clothes for my children. I am so happy because GiveDirectly has changed our living standard.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that I will be able to clear this year's school fees arrears of $440 for my two children in high school, without calling for fundraising from well-wishers like I usually do. I will also spend $400 to purchase a surplus-milk-producing Friesian dairy cow, which will in turn be my source of income upon selling 6-7 liters of milk, where one liter goes for 40 shillings, hence and assured daily earnings.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My daily routine entails doing household chores every morning after my spouse has left for work and my children have gone to school. This is the most peaceful and the happiest part of my day since I am always busy around this time and my mind is not preoccupied with thoughts that would otherwise stress me up.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Being a jobless mother of seven school-going children comes with vast responsibilities. Supporting their needs, more so food and education requires a lot of resources. My spouse who is a plumber earns $70 monthly and the amount is split to accommodate all the family needs, thus the biggest hardship we face.
