How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I have plans to buy more chickens to add to the ones that I have. I have been rearing a few chickens and they have been of great benefit to me. I have a chicken house that I had already constructed before. I hence do not have many expenses to incur. I will only have to look for money for buying the chickens. I am a farmer where I grow maize and keep livestock. I usually sell some of the maize when I harvest them and I also usually sell five litres of milk every day where I get paid at the end of the month. I plan to use the money that I get from these activities on buying more chickens. The chickens are going to help me because when I sell the eggs, I will be able to get money for buying the household necessities such as sugar, soap, etc.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly did well because the lives of many people were uplifted due to the transfers that they received from them. Many of them were able to make many developments such as building houses, buying livestock, and paying school fees. I, therefore, urge them to continue with the same spirit.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent most of my second transfer on buying seats. I bought sofa sets. I decided to buy the seats because we didn't have any before. We had managed to build another house but we were not able to buy seats to place in it because we didn't have the money to do so. I usually make approximately KES 10000 from the sale of maize that I harvest while as for the milk, I usually make KES 5000 per month. The money that I get most of it usually goes to the payment of tuition fees for my child who is in college. I hence didn't have the money to make such developments. I am therefore so much thankful to GiveDirectly because they enabled me to accomplish something that I never thought I will be able to achieve soon. We now have comfortable seats to sit on together with our guests.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment when I received the transfer I felt so happy. I remember it was around 10 am when I heard a ringtone message from my phone. I was doing my daily household chores when I heard a ringtone message from my phone. When I checked it I couldn't believe my eyes, it was a message confirming that I have received money from GiveDirectly. I felt so happy and inform my family members. They all celebrated with joy. I knew I would be able to buy a water tank. I wanted until the next day then I went to withdrew the money. I am so happy because GiveDirectly has changed our living standard.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have bought a water tank. I used to walk for quite a long distance to collect clean water water for domestic use. This was so tiresome and time consuming. Due to my age I was not able to go to the river more than two times a day. I had always wished to own a water tank but I didn't had the money. I depend on small scale farming and the harvest that we get through this is so small and only for consumption. I didn't had surplus to sell. Currently I have a 5,000 liters water tank. I no longer get stressed up. I can access clean water for drinking and for domestic used. I give to my goats to drink. I have saved so much time to spend on the farm cultivating .I am so happy because GiveDirectly has enabled me to own this. It could have taken quite some time to get it.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent KES 36,000 on purchasing a 5,000 litres water tank for storing clean water. We used to walk for a long distance to collect clean water for domestic use. This was so tiresome and time consuming. The rest of the money I used on food and clothes. My spouse had passed on that time and we spent so much for the funeral expenses. I am so happy because GiveDirectly came to our rescue. We were able do all the activities successfully and I laid my spouse peacefully.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I want to build a small canteen. I live near main road. This will help generate more income. I expect to cost me around 100 dollars. This canteen will help me in many ways. Iam a farmer so I will be able to sell my produce in the canteen.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning when i wake up feeling well and energized. It gives me encouragement to go about daily activities.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship has been financial constraints. I have a land but i dont have enough money to plough and plant. I wanted to plant beans and potatoes this will help me to feed my family and even sell if is does well, but due to lack of enough money i have not full fill this.
