How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than how it would have been had I not received the transfer. This is because I am now a proud owner of a dairy cow. Due to this, there is a reduction of KES 60 on my daily expenditure as I no longer buy milk like before. In addition, I am currently well informed about most of the things happening in our county and around the globe as I always listen to news using my radio and I am able to make well informed decisions.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my own opinion, GiveDirectly does well by uplifting people's lives through cash transfer and I do not see anything that they do not do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent my transfer to purchase a dairy cow worth KES 30000 for dowry. We settled on this as a family so that I would give it to my in-laws as part of payment for my wife's dowry. Using the remaining amount, I bought a solar panel and batterySolar for lighting purposes, a radio so that we can always be informed on the current affairs of the country and some food to last my family for some time.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was 7a.m in the morning when I was still in bed and I heard a message beep. On checking the message and it was GiveDirectly transfer, I jumped out of bed to tell my wife about the transfer and immediately after breakfast we went to collect transfer from town.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
My chicken used to stray everytime to other people's shambas and cause destruction creating a bad relationship with neighbours. With the wire mesh that I bought, my chicken will not stray to destroy other people's produce. This will create a good relationship with neighbours and I also plan on adding more chicken for business.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I bought a chicken net to tend my chicken. I do chicken business and I want to add 20 more chicken, I also bought a young cow which will be of age soon for milking. I used part of the cash to plough and plant an acre of land with maize.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have been dreaming of purchasing a dairy cow so that its produce can increase my income. Depending on subsistence farming alone is not reliable because some times weather is not good.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Morning is my happiest part of the day. It is at this time because God has enable me to see the next day healthy and ready to go to my usually work.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Our biggest hardship we have faced in our life is lack of enough food. For some years now the yield from my subsistence farming has not been that good because certain disease destroyed them and also the persisted drought.
