How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I used to wish to expand my farm by buying more land adjacent to mine. I managed to do this only with the transfers from GiveDirectly. The land I had was not sufficient for farming and for putting up homes for all of my children. When I acquired the parcel I bought, things became better because I have reduced congestion on the farm.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well since everyone in my village who benefited from this has really grown financially. people venture into different money-making activities. There are those who are farming, while others have invested the money in small businesses. This is because GiveDurectky made it flexible for us to make decisions on how to spend the money.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent the money I received on buying a piece of land. I spent the whole transfer and expanded my farmland. I have acquired the land from my neighbor and so the land is in just one continuous parcel with the one I had before.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have been able to buy some building materials that I am intending to use in building a permanent kitchen for my family. Having a permanent kitchen had always been my prayer as it can last longer and it takes less time cleaning it. I thank GiveDirectly for enabling me to achieve this as it would have been impossible for me to achieve it on my own.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I knew that GiveDirectly had sent me the money in the morning after I requested my son to check for me the message I had received the previous night. I became so happy after he informed me about the good news.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I bought some bricks and iron sheets to use in building a more decent and permanent kitchen for my family using part of the money I received from GiveDirectly. I settled on this since it has always been my prayer to do so but I had not been able to due to lack of money. Having a permanent house with a cemented floor will make the cleaning process easier and less time-consuming. I still have some amount that I am intending to use to start the construction work.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means i will be able to purchase bricks, timber and iron sheets to construct a modern kitchen since the one i currently use is made of mud and is hard to maintain especially at my old age. I also intend to fence my compound hence this money will enable me to buy some wire mesh, wood, nails and barbed wire
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am always happy in the morning whenever i wake up healthy and energetic since with that i know i will be able to plan well for the day
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Poor harvests due to unpredictable weather patterns in this area has been the biggest hardship i face now that the little farm produce i harvest from my farm goes to feeding my family hence none is left for sale. I nowadays fully depend on my children whenever i want to satisfy my other needs, something i consider challenging
