Since we currently cook outside, it's a challenge at night or during rainy days. We plan to build a structure to ensure comfort in cooking. It can cost about $150. Additionally, we need an extra two rooms for our children to sleep at. Our house is small for the family and we lack privacy. We estimate to spend about $500 in the new structure.
Lastly, we also need an investment. I've enquired about the cost of a beehive. Beekeeping is a good venture due to the favourable climate. One can harvest biannually. One beehive can fetch upwards of $200 in a good year. I plan to buy about five beehives.
This will support our income stream and also lessen the burden of paying fees in the future.
What is the happiest part of your day?
It makes me happy to have a healthy family. We've all been healthy this year except for my husband who had minor heart complications. He was treated and able to resume our normal activities. It brings me joy knowing my family has been able to live a good healthy life. I'm happy and hopeful we can continue this way and do our normal life activities such as taking care of the goats or doing casual jobs for a living.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Raising school fees for our three children in secondary is a challenge. We've sold most of our goats hence need to find other means to pay fees. Our children are sent home sometimes due to fees areas. It breaks my heart seeing them at home and cannot pay. It means we're forced to do more casual jobs or burn more charcoal to send them back to school.
