Upon completion of my initial goals, I developed a new goal of buying a flock of goats. Previously, I did not have even a single goat although I had been longing even to raise one. However, I only had two cows that survived the previous harsh drought. From my knew flock of goats, I shall be having ready assets that I can sell anytime I feel stuck and in great need of some money. Moreover, whenever my children will be in need of school fees, I shall always be able to get money for fees by simply selling one or two goats from my flock. Thanks to GiveDirectly for impacting our lives positively.

In my opinion, GiveDirectly does so well in alleviating poverty through direct cash transfer. This has greatly improved our lifestyle by relieving us from the hard casual labour of making and selling charcoal. Currently, all in our village are happy because as a result of the transfers, they have been able to buy food for their family members. Even families that previously had difficulty in raising fees have found it easier to pay off their children school fees. Indeed, GiveDirectly is such an orderly NGOs that is mindful of the less fortunate.

From my most recent transfer, I spent about KES 20,000 to build a small house for my son who is currently in secondary school. Although he does not have a house because he is young, he had been struggling to get a place to sleep in. My house is relatively small with inadequate rooms to accommodate all, especially my grown up children. Previously, he was spending in his uncle's house which is about 200 meters from my house. Building for him a house will accord him a conducive environment for his studies. In addition, I spent KES 10,000 to start up a business of selling clothes from which I have been raising an average profit of KES 800 per day in the last two weeks.

It was around 9 AM when I learned that I had received my first transfer when doing house chores I was preparing breakfast for my family early in the morning when I heard my phone vibrating, an alert of a message. Without hesitating, I decided to check the content of the message I later realized that it was an Mpesa message from GiveDirectly. They had finally sent my first transfer which I was promised during the enrolment period Due to the excitement that I had, I couldn't even continue with the house chores. I celebrated with my family and thanked God for the blessing

My life has been different because, through the transfers, I was able to clear the fees arrears for my two children who are in secondary schools. Paying school fees has been my biggest challenge for years because I have been jobless and only depend on my spouse who also relies on the odd jobs with meager incomes. This made them miss important exams most of the time and this has been affecting them academically. I used to stretch all my sources but nothing was working out completely. I have walked in all government offices requesting bursaries but I have not been lucky at all. All I could get were some fake promises who even demotivated them further. I am so happy that now this has been fully sorted. I no longer lose sleep thinking about how I will educate my children like before. I spent a larger portion of my first transfer on clearing school fees for my three children who are both in secondary school. I had to prioritize this because they are usually on and off due to school fees arrears. I also started a new business of selling second-hand clothes that I am now operating in town and at least I have a source of income that I can rely on because I have been jobless all along. With the remaining, I bought a water tank of 320 liters worthy of KES 3500 and enough foodstuffs for my family that could at least last us for a couple of days. I am so humbled that though GiveDirectly, I managed to fulfill my heart's desires.
