As of now, I have not planned or developed any goal to accomplish once I get some money. This is because, I am used to planning for whatever is in my reach. Considering that, I will plan what to do if I get some money since I currently do not have a defined goal though the line of thinking is shopkeeping.

GiveDirectly is a life-uplifting organization that empowers people to do things that they were initially unable to do. On my side, I did not have a house and I had no means of acquiring one, but through the first transfer from GiveDirectly I am now having a good house.

Upon receiving the money, the plan was already set. I wanted to start a new business that could serve as an income generating activity. Therefore, I bought a motorbike for KES 3200.00. This motorbike is now my source of income. I also bought a bed and a mattress for KES 8500.00, this is because I used to sleep on a poor condition bed with torn bedding. Thereafter I paid KES 8000.00 school fees for my five primary school children. Since I had constructed a house but had not fix the door yet, I bought a door for KES 3000.00. Having done that I used to remaining amount for family use.

It was around 11 pm when I had retired to bed when my mobile phone started ringing so loudly. I was a bit curious and decided to ask one of my daughters to check for me who it could be. After going through it, she realized that it was an Mpesa message from GiveDirectly informing me that they had sent my first transfer as they had promised during enrollment. I felt so happy and I couldn't afford to go back to sleep. We immediately started having a positive outlook on our lives which was full of hope.

The biggest difference in my daily life is that I now sleep under a decent modern house. For so many years, I have been yearning to own a better one but I couldn't afford it because the materials needed were very expensive. The roofing of my previous house was old and the walls were almost collapsing due to the holes that were all over. We were always sick because of the cold nights and all sorts of troubles that we were facing throughout. In addition to that, there was no security nor privacy in my house because someone could enter anytime and take my properties without my knowledge. Also during the rainy days, my house was leaking and all we could do was to sleep at our relative's houses. The fact that I now sleep under a nice house still feels like a dream to me because I never thought I would own it anytime soon. Considering that my spouse and I are jobless and we only depended on our children for the daily bread. Therefore the change that GiveDirectly has brought unto my life is unexplainable.

I spent part of my first transfer on buying some building materials such as pieces of iron sheets KES 22800, nails, timber, building poles KES 16000, and the labor charge of KES 12000. I bought all these to construct a new house because the current one was just a small temporary hut. Therefore some of my children had to shelter at their grandmother's house which was a bit hectic. I later cleared school fees of KES 10000 for my two children who are both in secondary schools. I am so happy they are no longer being sent him regularly like before. With the remaining amount of money, I bought enough foodstuffs and decent clothes for my family.
