How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than how it would have been had I not received the transfer because I have been able to start poultry farming. I am working towards expanding it so that I can be able to earn higher returns. Also, being able to expand my business using the transfer has led to an increase in my daily income hence I can now meet our daily needs on time.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well by ensuring that everyone received the transfer and I do not see anything that they did not do well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent part of my second transfer to start poultry keeping farming. I bought some chicks, chicken feeds and also built a chicken pen. I settled on this so that I can be using the income from this project to support my family. I spent the remaining amount to buy food for my family and nets to use in decorating our house.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
I have been operating a maize milling business and the chances of expanding were minimal because I never managed to fully meet my customer's needs, thus reducing my profits. It had been discouraging watching my customers go for distance to get maize flour that I could have provided with an exchange of money. I lost a lot and felt I had made a wrong mistake putting up my business. I had a wish to expand it by bringing in maize to sell but the low profits and overwhelming family needs made my dream unrealistic. When I received my first transfer, I resolved to inject KES 30000 to increase the stock in my business. I bought adequate maize stock that will serve a large number of customers thus I am sure that my earnings will improve and increase again. My business is back to life again through the money I received from GiveDirectly. To me, this is the biggest difference in my daily life. I believe the extra profits will help me improve my family living standards and meet emergencies in the family.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was early in the morning after waking up when I decided to read a message I had received the previous night. It was at this point that I realized that GiveDirectly had finally sent us the promised money. The content of the message made me so happy and I could not wait anymore to inform my spouse about the good news as I immediately did so by calling him. I called GiveDirectlys office to thank them for the financial help but unfortunately, I did not know how to go about the IVR process.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I own a maize milling machine that has enabled me to provide for my family. Operating this machine has been a privilege to me but since I had little resources to expand it, my customers had to walk for a long distance looking for maize flour thus I lost a lot. When I received my first transfers, I used KES 30000 to boost this business by buying some maize stock. I am now glad since all my customers no longer go to other places in search of maize. I am happy that this has greatly increased my profits. Also, I spent some amount to clear school fee arrears for my children in secondary school so that they would be allowed to sit for their end year examinations. I used the remaining amount to buy some clothes and foodstuffs for my family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means boosting my posho mill business. I plan to stock my posho mill shop with cereals like maize and beans among others. In this case my customers won't have to travel far in search for maize for milling. The remaining part of my transfer will go to adding a dairy cow to the one i have and this means total financial independence hence i will be able to support my spouse in providing for our family
What is the happiest part of your day?
I usually spend my mornings tilling and weeding crops in my farm till midday when i head back home to prepare lunch for my family. Afternoon is the happiest part of my day since it's time i get to rest as i watch gospel songs in my television
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Unlike in the past whereby we used to consume food growing in our farms, life has been difficult of late due to unpredictable climatic conditions. we are forced to buy everything, thus investing in saving has been a great challenge which is the hardship we face
