How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I am an old woman. A farmer. I used to live in Monrovia with my daughter and grandchildren. The cold hands of death took my daughter away from me at an early age. Things got so hard for me. I could no longer afford to take care of my grandchildren.I had no option but to move back to my hometown. I started making farms. I plant peppers and cassava. During the harvest time, I take produce from my farm to local markets for sale. I have no new goals. My goal has always been to see my grandchildren live a better life since they lost their both parents. Hopefully after receiving all of the transfers my dreams will become a reality.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly's cash program is a life changer. It is doing so much good for us.That they don't accept gifts of goodwill from us is something we as villagers feels that they are not doing well. We try to appreciate them in our weak way, but they always refuse our gifts. We are grateful for this opportunity, we know our lives will now get better.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I am an old woman.I have been sick for some time now. I lost my daughter. I had no one to help me. I couldn't afford our needs. My grandchildren dropped out of school. I could no longer afford their tuition. I could not afford our rent. We moved back home to my village.I was overwhelmed when I received my money. I haven't withdrawn the money but when I do, I'm planning to buy a land in Buchanan to build a decent house. This is a golden opportunity to change our lives for the best.
