How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Before GD transfers, I did not have enough land to cultivate on since most of the land was mortgaged and this left me with nowhere to farm. I used to hire people's gardens which wasn't enough and above all it was very expensive. Secondly I did not have hope of curing Hepatitis B and Brucellosis which had detoralated my health because I didn't have money for diagnosis and treatment . My life is different now because, I managed to clear my mortgages and claimed ownership of my land which I currently farm on therefore I have hope of enough food this year to cater for my family. Secondly, I was able to seek medical attention for the above mentioned diseases which has improved my health conditions giving me a second chance to live.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly helped me claim possession of my three gardens which I had mortgaged out to address family needs. In my community there is a big change because previous my village was full of grass thatched houses which is no longer the case because there are so many iron roofed houses courtesy of GD transfers.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I paid off land mortgage which we acquired for burial arrangements of my grandfather. I also paid school fees for my brother, Sought medical attention and the remaining money was spent on household items.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have got back my farm land after paying a debt. Prior to receiving the transfer, I had a small piece of land which was not enough and I depended on casual labor for food.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received the transfer, I became so happy bacause it was an opportunity for me to clear the big debt that I had.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent UGX 1,520,000 of my first transfer for paying a debt which enabled me to get back the land that I had given out as security. The balance of the money was spent on purchase of food, scholastic materials and paying school fees.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving money means completing the construction of our house that we are staying in nd part of it will be spent on paying school fees for the children. We are staying in an incomplete house that requires plastering and flooring it.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am happy after eating lunch with my children. That comes because it's difficult to find what to eat in my household due to inadequate land for crop cultivation.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Hepatitis B is my biggest problem. It was diagonized from the government health centre but I have ever since lacked money for starting with treatment.
