How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Farming has recently been an unreliable source of income for us due to the unfavourable weather conditions that have affected our area. As a result, my long-term goal is to start selling secondhand clothing. I believe that in order for me to achieve this goal, I should begin saving money during each harvesting season. I am confident that this dream will come true. I am overjoyed and grateful for the assistance that has significantly improved our financial situation.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
I am extremely grateful for the assistance because the organization provided us with financial aid. During their visit to the village, they made certain that they thoroughly explained the program to us and that we understood how it worked. The field officers carried out the household visits in a professional manner, leaving us satisfied and happy.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
When I was promised that I would receive the unconditional transfer, one of the things I wanted to do was buy a piece of land. This had been a dream of mine for many years, but it now appears to be a pipe dream due to financial constraints. I am a businesswoman who sells vegetables around the village for a living, and my husband is a tractor driver; we have three children. As a result, when I received my transfer, I considered raising $300 to pay for a parcel of land. It's a dream come true because I won't have to rely on the merry-go-round or our group table banking. Second, I used the entire amount to purchase cushions for my sofa sets and to revamp my poultry project. I am overjoyed that I was able to accomplish so much during my shower time.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 5 pm when I was relaxing at home, suddenly I heard my phone ringing, though I ignored it thinking that it was one of the many messages from the service provider, I heard an ululation from my neighbour celebrating the receipt of the transfer, I immediately picked up my phone, On confirming I saw a message showing that I had received money from GiveDirectly, I was overwhelmed with joy, I was positive that all my plans would be executed now that I had the cash at hand.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I no longer waste a lot of time heading to the stream, this is because I can comfortably harvest rainwater for our consumption, we used to buy drinking water but with this, we will be able to save up money on the cost of buying water daily. I am grateful for the support that changed my life to a higher level in society.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Upon receiving my transfer, I thought of investing it in a water tank, this is because we don't have a stream nearby with clean water, thus I used KES 21,000 to purchase a water tank, I then bought a cow at KES 10,000, In addition to that I bought a sofa set cushions and beddings at KES 3700, lastly, I bought foodstuffs and clothes with the remaining amount of the transfer, I was unable to achieve the above due to unreliable sources of income. I am grateful for the support that changed my living standards in a short time.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
We have been living in abject poverty for along time now. Poverty is the worst thing it can happen to anybody,it derives someone the peace of mind. Give Directly could not have come at a better time than this. It means alot to us ,the small hut we stay at the moment was made possible from the help of neighbours and relatives. We were at the verge of staying at the open since our house was old and the walls had started to cave in. It is against this backdrop that we intend to build another house , an iron sheet roofed house, it will cost approximately KES 20000. We will use the rest of the money to buy a dairy cow.
What is the happiest part of your day?
We were very joyful when we build anew hut. The one we had was so dilapidated and in poor shape. Since we moved in to this one we have seen alot of changes. It is more comfortable and warm. We now live happily like other people.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Our parents have been sick for sometime now. They are aged, unfortunately our mother passed on last month after along battle with the cancer. Our father is also battling heart problem and high blood pressure, he is indisposed and we are taking care of him. We have been in and out of Tenwek Hospital for sometime. It has strained us mentally and financially.
