How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different in that we were able to pay school fees for our children. The money was paid in full amount, guaranteeing my children ample school and study time with no interruption of being sent back home to collect the fee which were not there altogether. I also have a cow. When the cow calves, I will also have a source of income from the sale of milk from it. The milk is also food to my children hence I would not spend most of the money in procurement of milk for family. Also, the money played a big role in ensuring that shortage of food problem was eradicated once and for all.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Givedirectly does good by offering financial support to poor people to help them rise beyond their means in terms of unconditional cash transfers. There is really nothing that GD does wrong!
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent the second transfers in payment of school fees for my children who were in secondary school by the time the money came. I also bought a cow since I had none.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that my family has all the basics that we need. School fee, food and clothes. This makes us happy and we are grateful for Give Directly transfer.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
We were so happy with my husband to receive the funds from Give Directly. Our children in secondary school had been sent home for lack of fee. Our other source of funds was no more because our maize plantations were destroyed by a disease that broke out in our region so we were just looking to the heavens to send help to us and indeed we got heavenly help from Give Directly. Our needs were fully catered for and our children went back to school. They are now home for holiday. May God bless Give Directly.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
We spent 11000 KES from the first transfer that we received from Give Directly on school fee, 36000 KES to buy a cow and the balance on clothes and food.

What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
When I got married back in 1992 life was very difficult. We lived in a thatched house which leaked whenever it rained. We had very little to eat and my children were always hungry.I also had to take care of my mother in law who was very old.For very many years we had to live such a hard life but God had seen us through. For the last three years things have started to change and I now see a bright future.
