How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
If I could not have received the transfer I could not have managed to pay my college fee and completed my course that I had started. I could also not managed to fance my compound since I did not have a stable source of income.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion give directly is a trustworthy organisation because they full filed their promised as they said, since so many organisations has come to our village and they have never fulfil their promises. They were also giving out money in lumps that one can planning wisely. I did not see what give directly did not do well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent most of the transfer to buy fencing materials and fenced the land that I bought with first transfer where I am planing to put up my own house. When I managed to put up house in that compound I will be staying in a very secured place that do not need to worry of any insecurity and my property will also be safe. I also spent the transfer to add more building materials as I am planning to put up a spacious comfortable house in my own compound where I will be free to do my developments. I also spent the transfer to pay school fee from my daughter who was joining secondary school after she has passed her primary education and I could not stand her dropping out of school . The remaining balance I spent to pay my college fee after i had dropped out of school because of lack of school fee, I am glad I managed to pay my fee and completed my training and acquired my certificate.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have been able to meet the family's needs with a lot of ease and I no longer borrow money from neighbors. This is because I now have a business that provides daily income unlike in the previous case when I had to wait for six days before I could be paid for the work I did.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It's unusual to receive either calls or messages, especially at the wee hours so when I was awoken by the sound of the phone I wondered what the message could be. When I checked and confirmed that I had received money from GiveDirectly I felt so happy and I immediately called my spouse to share the good news with him.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I'm still staying at my late fathers-in-law home because I couldn't afford the money to construct a home. The compound is small, but we are about six families and my spouse is the first son. According to our tradition, the eldest son has to leave the parents compound first so that he could allow the younger siblings to move out. The moment when I received the first transfer I bought some pieces of iron sheets that I'm planning to use in December while I'll be constructing a home. A portion of the money I used to fence the piece of land where we'll construct our home so that it can be secure, in addition to that, it's a way of demarcating boundary. Part of the money I paid for my children's examination fee so that they could be allowed to sit for their end year exams. For a long period of time, I have been relying on casual work which is not well paying so part of the money I used to start up a small business so that I can have an additional income to help me cater for the family comfortably.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that I will be able to buy iron sheets which will be spent on building a new house and part of it will be invested in my grocery business.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the afternoon when I go to our local market called Junction to sell groceries. This makes me happy as it forms part of my livelihood.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I face in my life is that our income is unstable and at times we are not able to raise school fees for our children forcing them to stay at home while the rest are learning.
