How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Had I not received the transfer, I would still be leading a miserable life. The house that used to be my shelter was in a bad state and not spacious enough to accommodate my children. They were forced to seek shelter elsewhere at night. I am happy and at peace now having built a decent and spacious iron roofed house through the transfers. It would have taken years for me to achieve this. My children no longer seek shelter from neighbours because we stay under one roof.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well by helping us financially. This makes the organization unique since I have never seen one of a kind for all the days in my life. We had the privilege of choosing what's best for us according to our household needs. Honestly, this has really improved the living standard as a village. On the other hand, I do not see any part GiveDirectly needs to change.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of my second transfer on buying a dairy cow which has been a well thoughtful asset that I have been longing to own for years but due to financial constraints, I couldn't afford it. Also, I paid school fees for both my children and grandchildren who are both in primary and secondary schools. I am glad they are now studying comfortably unlike before. Also, I bought a nice bed, mattress, and bedsheets to replace the old bedding that I have been using. With the remaining amount of money, I bought enough foodstuffs for my family.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It can still remember vividly just like the other day I was still on my bed when I heard my phone ringing indicating that there was an incoming message. Without was time, I decided to check its content. I realized it was an Mpesa message from GiveDirectly, they had debited my first transfer as they had promised earlier. I felt wow!. I immediately started planning on how best I could utilize it.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I now sleep in my own house. Before the coming of GiveDirectly into my life, I used to shelter in my cowife's house which was very small. This is because my house collapsed so many years ago and I had no money to buy the materials to construct a decent one. My spouse passed on so many years ago and left behind children with nothing no inherit. Life was so tough considering it was a polygamous marriage. The little I was earning was too little to construct a house. I am now a happy soul together with my children because we no longer worry about the rains, also I feel secured.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of my transfer on buying beddings such as a new bed a mattress and bedsheets. This was to replace the old ats that I have been using as beddings for all those years. Also, I used bought building materials which include building poles, iron sheets, nails, timber, and threads. I purchased all these with an intention of buying a new house since the previous one collapsed a few months ago. I also bought a pair of oxen which will help me in my agricultural activities. With the remaing amount of money, bought enough foodstuffs for my children and some other household items that I was lacking.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
A decent shelter for myself is what receiving this money means to me. After the death of my husband, the house he left for me collapsed 2 years ago since then I have been not been able to construct a house for myself. I was forced to seek accommodation for my neighbors. I am planning to spend $ 250 dollars to build a two-roomed house and to purchase beddings. This will restore the happiness I lost for a long time. The remaining amount will assist me in purchasing oxen and ox-plow to help me in the preparation of my farm.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Being a peasant farmer, I spend my the better part of my day in my farm digging and weeding my crops. It's only in the evening when I get time to interact with the other members of our extended family. We usually narrate stories to each other which relieves me from the stresses of life hence I consider evening as the happiest part of of my day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Imagine seeking refuge from my neighbours for 2 years due to the financial crisis I am facing. This has lowered my dignity as I am constantly receiving mocking from my neighbours. I am happy to receive my transfer that will restore my lost happiness.
