How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Earnings that I started streaming in is the biggest difference in my daily life that was brought about by the transfers. I am operating a taxi business that brings in money. I have been saving ever since it kicked off. I also improved my home by building a house and bought a solar lighting system. Recharging the solar is absolutely free and this saves money that would have gone to waste buying batteries for touches to light the houses.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly does well because the neediest people in the villages get to receive the transfers. Many of my neighbors unlike before transfers have income-generating activities.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent the money I received on the second transfer on buying a motorbike in order to start a taxi business. I hired my son as the ride. I get an income on a weekly basis from the business.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was still on my bed when I heard a message notification. I asked for some assistance from my daughter since I am illiterate. She checked and confirmed that GD had debited my first transfer into my account. I was so happy and I started celebrating with my family.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The money that I received from GiveDirectly empowered me to construct my own semi-permanent house. Ever since I got married I have never enjoyed my marriage life because of the condition of the house. I have always been yarning to enjoy the peace of living in a decent house but this was all in vain. The fact that I am a widow I had almost lost hope in life. But then God answered my prayers. I have always been seeking some shelters from relatives during the winter seasons which was so stressful. After constructing the new spacious iron-roofed hoise I feel it has brought the biggest difference in my daily life. I will no longer suffer during the rain seasons courtesy to GiveDirecty.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of my first transfer on buying materials such as some iron sheets, building poles, nails, timber. This was for the purpose of constructing a new house because the previous was not spacious and its condition was not a good state. It's now about 20 years ago when I got married and I have never enjoyed my marriage life because of the condition of the house. I felt embarrassed whenever someone pays me a visit because of the poverty that had stricken my household. I then paid school fees for my children who are a secondary school, I had to pay i n advance to avoid them being sent home to collect school fees. The remaining amount of money I bought enough foodstuffs for my family and some other households such as a table and chairs.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means a sustainable source of income and a conducive shelter for my family. I intend to invest 70% of my transfer in Livestock raising and the rest on putting up a better shelter and paying school fees for my children.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Morning is the happiest part of my day. It gives me joy to wake up each day knowing that I have a purpose to accomplish. Therefore, it is in the morning when I engage in farm work. I grow maize and cassava.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Lack of adequate finances has been the biggest hardship in life. This was necessitated by the demise of my husband which occurred 2 years ago whom we solely depended on. Ever since I've been struggling to adequately meet the needs of the family.
