How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I managed to pay university fee for my two daughters who were almost dropping out of school because of lack of fee and if not give directly I could not managed to pay their fee. I have also managed to buy cows that I did not know that I would have in my life, I am now tilling my land with ease as compared to before when I was using my hand to till the land which was very hectic.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion give directly is a very transparent organisation without any corruption as compared to other any organisation, reason being they full filed their promised as they said. They were also dealing with people directly without involving third party. Me personal I did not see what give directly did not do well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I have been going through a lot pay university fee for my two children that i have sold most of my property for my children to get better education. I was doing all this because I know when they complete their education they will be able to support me in future and even them they will have a better future. So when i received the money from directly I was very happy and stress free because I knew I was going to pay for them school fee with ease. I spent the whole of the transfer to pay their university fee and I am happy my children are now learning very comfortably and I know they will not be sent home very soon for fee arrears.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The difference in my daily life is that I have peace. I can sleep the whole night without having to worry about where to get the next amount to pay my orphaned children school fees. I was always waiting for the power saw man to come and cut down the trees to compensate for the arrears my children owed their various schools. This is no longer the case, I get deep night sleeps always since then after getting money from GiveDirectly and clearing the school fees.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I think the message came in at around 3.00 am because that is the time my husband woke me up to tell me that we had received the money. First, he told me he thought the message was from one of his colleagues until he read it that it had come from GiveDirectly. I was so happy. I wished daylight could come first, I felt like the sun was taking longer than normal to rise which was no the case though. Just the anxiety to start spending the money was overwhelming me.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I am taking care of three orphans. Two of them are in university and I have been struggling so much to keep them in school. To manage this, I have been calling for fundraisings mostly in my church, this does not give me enough either since the people are of middle and some low class as me. When bad goes to bad, sometimes I sell my livestock and as we speak, my kraal is empty. It has been frustrating so much. Other times I could not afford to pay the money in cash and the school could come and cut down my trees so that it compensates the money am supposed to pay. The trees have reduced too and I had been wondering where I was going to get the next amount to keep them in school. When I received this money from GiveDirectly, I spent 15000 KES on each of them. I do not owe their schools any arrears now. I am free of stress.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that I will be able to pay college fees for my two children who are in Great Lakes and Eldoret Universities.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning when I go to my farm to plough maize. This makes me happy as it suppliments our income.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I face in my life is that I stay with total orphans who need food and school fees. This at times is a challenge as I also have my own who depend on me.
