How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than it would have been if I never received the transfer because I own a motorcycle. I operate a retail shop and transportation that is involved in stocking items in my shop was a big challenge before. I felt that I could have expanded the business if it was not for the transport cost. I am so happy that low cost of transport has greatly increased my profits. I currently enjoy effective and efficient transport thus have humble time to operate my business. My shop has grown and the profits are much higher which gives me ease in providing for my family's needs.On the other hand the motorcycle serves part of communal needs for instance in emergencies where some village members are sick especially the elderly and they do not have any means of transport. I always volunteer to take them to hospital as well. All these has changed my life positively and in a big way.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well by doing door to door visits that enable them capture the really pictures of the villagers living standard accordingly. As a result, it helped to pick out the genuine poorest households in my village who received these transfers.Personally, I do not see what GiveDirectly didn't do well in their operations.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my second transfer on buying a second motorcycle worth 50,000 KES. I am a business person and among the challenges I had before while operating my business was the high cost of transport when going to bring new stock at the wholesale shops that were far. I am glad that owning a motorcycle means I no longer incur much on transportation like before. The remaining amount I bought food for my family's consumption.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
At the moment I can't talk of much difference in m daily life but I believe in the next two months I'll have an improvement.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
We already planned on how to spend the money before it was sent, and we were eagerly waiting for it. The moment when I received my money I felt so happy and I saw my life improved at that moment.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
Previously I had a bicycle which was by means of transport to work so when I received the money I spent it on a motorcycle which is faster and convenient. Part of the money I paid for a child who had a school fee balance.

Receiving this money means improved living standards for my household. I would like to buy a motorcycle that I shall use for transportation. This will be of reliable source of income that will enable me provide for my family's basic needs.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening when I get paid for the casual labor that I offer and buy some basic needs like food and clothes for my family.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I am facing in life is lack of self owned land. I have lived in squatters for along time with constant evictions which usually make me unstable. I hope this transfer will eventually liberate me from this problem.
