How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Completion of the construction of a new house with the first transfer and payment of school fees for my two children with the second transfer is a real-time miracle in our household. This is a stride so big to me which I would not have managed had I never received the transfer. I am grateful to be part of this and will forever be thankful to GiveDirectly for this timely support
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
The decision made by GiveDirectly to disperse the support in monetary value was a great favor to me. This was a chance to decide what to spend on. I can't complain at all since what I have seen happen few months after the transfer is a clear testimony that GiveDirectly has done a great job.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
With the second transfer, I spent a huge portion of it on paying school fees for my two children currently in secondary school. To each child, I paid 25000KES which was enough to keep them in school for another full term. I needed a longer break in between the terms to work on other income-generating projects; raise enough money to pay for the next term.  With the small amount I was still had, I obtained foodstuff that kept us for more than a month too.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was full of excitement when I received the message notification saying that I had received the transfer from GiveDirectly. I saw my dream of having a house of my own coming true and I thanked God for answering my prayer. I thank GiveDirectly for coming up with this program of helping the needy, may God bless you abundantly.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
This transfer is going to bring a big difference for me and my family. Having bought sand and cement, I will be able to finish the house that I have always wanted to have. I have been living in a small house for a very long time and I felt that it would be nice for my family to have a bigger house that will be enough for them to stay in and one that will be able to accommodate guests visiting. I am happy that this dream is going to be a reality. The transfer has also helped me in buying a few bags of maize that is going to sustain my family for a while. I will therefore not be having worries in the next few months o what my family is going to eat.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
The money from GiveDirectly has helped me in several ways. I have been able to buy some sand and cement that I want to use in completing a house that I had not finished building. The project of building the house had stopped for a while because I no longer had money, the money that I had at first was not enough for me to finish building the house. With this transfer that I got, I believe that I will be able to complete it. My family will hence have a bigger place to stay and the house will too be enough to accommodate guests. This transfer from GiveDirectly has also helped me in buying a few bags of maize for my family. The bags of maize will sustain us for quite some time and hence I will not be having worries about what my family is going to eat. I also bought some furniture for the house and a few chickens that I am going to keep with some of the money. I also bought some clothes for my children.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have been yearning to venture into the highly lucrative maize trade in our area. Unfortunately, I have never afforded to raise the required capital. Hence, receiving this money means that my dream shall come to pass. Accordingly, I will greatly appreciate GiveDirectly for enabling me to attain the same because such a trade will act as a reliable source of income for our family.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening when we converge as a family for a common dinner. This is the time that I return thanks to God for caring, guiding, and protecting each of my family members throughout the day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
We do subsistence farming on 0.25 acres of land for our livelihood. Unfortunately, the little yields that we normally realize are barely enough to sustain us for some months. Accordingly, I have never managed to raise 10, 000 shillings only that I need to start up a business of maize trade. Hence, the biggest hardship I have in life is the sole reliance on small scale crop farming as a source of food for commercial and consumption purposes.
