How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My main goal is to give my son and daughter quality education. I also wish to buy a piece of land, build and relocate with my whole family. This can only happen if I get money but for now I do not have.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
The best thing that Give Directly has done is to bring money to our village. Please keep helping us more. How can good people who are helping you be doing something wrong? You have already set the bar high. Keep it up!
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used kshs 6,000 to build a house for my son. Before, he didn't have his own room where he could sleep but thanks to Give Directly, he now has a house. I also paid school fees worth kshs 30,000 for my son who is in form 1. I also wished to own a cow which can be giving me milk, so I bought a cow worth kshs 26,000. I'm already milking it. I sell some of the milk and consume some. I'm very grateful for this transfer because it has changed my life.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I had gone to visit my husband, who stays in a different town so he could be close to work when I got the funds from give directly. I was very delighted. The first thing that came to my mind was ways to settle my children's school fees. So, they may uninterruptedly learn as before, whatever my husband and I earn from the casual jobs we do, a handyman at a construction site and a charcoal manufacturer respectively.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
There's a lot I have done ever since I got these funds from give directly. Some of which I never thought I could, for instance, buying a bed, paying, my children's school fees, or even building a house for my son as the earnings I got as a charcoal manufacturer are too little to support my ideas
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I work as a charcoal manufacturer while my husband is a handyman at a construction site. Whatever little earnings we make, we would fend for my son who is in form four, and my daughter who was in college. Even so, this has been quite a challenge, and most times we have not been timely with our bill payments. So, when I got the funds from give directly. I topped up the amount I had with KES 20,000 from the transfer to settle the KES 30,000 school fee arrests they had. Since we never used to have beds, I bought three 4 by 6 beds and mattresses, one for my husband and I and the other two for my children. To improve our financial stability, I also bought a cow. I then saw it best to build a house for my son as he was 15 years old and needed his own privacy. I also needed seats in my house.  I thereby bought 8 plastic chairs that were selling at KES 650 each

What does receiving this money mean to you?
My target is to use the first transfer to pay school fees for my child who is joining secondary school next year. I will also use a portion of the second to buy beddings as well as buying 3 indigenous goats. As they multiply, I will sell at a profit and use the proceed to cater for other basic needs such as food, medical, and clothing. I will be impressed if this dream is accomplished since I will have someone from my household who is educated to rely on.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I have been facing challenges catering to the education of my son. Now that he completed his primary studies I am so happy because I thought he would not achieve it due to the many financial problems we are facing. This gives me hope that courage and determination are key to attaining your goal.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My husband and I depend on charcoal production as the main economic activity of my household. The job is very much involving and labor-intensive. Both of us earn KES 2000 per week which is not enough for a family of 5 members. All the income goes into purchasing food only. In a day I require KES 400 to get 3 meals which are not possible due to high prices for the consumable goods. As a result, food insecurity is the major challenge l am currently facing.
