How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Starting a business would be my next plan. Though the major hindrance at the moment is financing it. We all depend on farming to make ends meet, which is barely enough. If I happen to get money in the future, my dream would be to invest in a business.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Owning a cow is a dream come true. I never thought that I could afford one anytime soon due to our financial status. Additionally, the lives of people in our community were uplifted, too. We are grateful for the unconditional transfer that transformed our lives to a higher height.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
My husband has a medical condition that he has been suffering from since he was young. He is intellectually impaired, making me the sole breadwinner of the family of one child. I depend on farming to earn an income, which is barely enough. Upon receiving my second transfer, I opted to purchase a dairy cow worth $300 for sustainability and also to cut down on the cost of buying milk daily. Secondly, I bought two goats at the of $100 and lastly, I use the remaining amount on foodstuffs and my husband's medication. Achieving all these before was futile because of financial constraints, thus I am so grateful for the aid that lifted my living status tremendously.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was at home with my family, my child, and my husband, when I heard an alert of an incoming message. Upon checking, I saw that I had received funds from give directly. I was very happy and, in my excitement, I shared the news with my husband and we both celebrated together. We agreed on the best way to utilize the funds and the very first thing we thought of was to install a solar panel, which I did the following day and it cost me KES 20000.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
There has been a great difference in my life ever since I received the funds from give directly. For instance, I was able to install power in my home and now I do not have to charge my phone at distant locations. Then, I used to leave my phone at the shop for 2 days and on the third day, I would collect it to check if I had any messages or missed calls that I needed to call back. Now all this has been resolved as I can do so in the comfort of my house.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Due to my husband's epileptic condition, he cannot seek employment and I am the one who is left to be the sole provider of the family. To make ends meet, I farm for other people and also sell firewood. which gives me a daily earning of around KES 100 and KES 200 respectively. So, when I got the funds from give directly, I used KES 20000 to install a solar panel in my home as we were living in darkness making it difficult to operate at night. I also bought some materials to plaster my house at KES 15,000. Finally, to curb the water problem in my area, I bought a 15000-liter tank to help collect the rainwater. This has saved me so much energy as I would often be forced to walk more than two kilometers just to get water.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
My husband is epileptic and cannot work at all. He takes monthly medication that cost as around KES 500 a month. I look for casual jobs to feed my family while providing medication to my husband. Life has been difficult to me and Give Directly money will be a blessing since it will provide medication. I will also buy a cow to provide milk for my family. We are so happy as a family.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Our house was not complete and it was very cold at night and especially during rainy season. We were happy last December that we afforded to roof it well and sealed the walls properly.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Taking care of my epileptic husband and at the same time providing for my family is a difficult task. I have to look for casual jobs to earn a living. This casual jobs provide less income while being inconsistent.
