How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
As at now I do not have any other goal that I am intending to pursue once I get some money. the aim focus that I have is the health of my husband whom up to date he is still admitted at hospital. I extend my gratitude to the GD organization because through it I was able to take my ailing husband to hospital.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Honestly speaking, GiveDirectly is a wonderful organization that cannot be compared to ant other organization. It’s a good organization that touches directly the hearts and needs of the less advantaged people in the society. This organization has no fault; in fact if it were not for it then I do not know the state my husband would be as at now.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
When I received the second transfer, I was unable to accomplish my goals because of the unavoidable sickness that befall my husband. I only bought 6 goats for KES 10000.00. The reason for buying these goats was just for a remembrance of GiveDirectly since I couldn’t d as I planned. Thereafter, I used the remaining amount of money for my husband medication.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was relaxing outside my house chatting with 3 daughters-in-law while taking breakfast with them. I heard my phone ringing and I called the helper to check on my behalf since I am illiterate. I remember it was about 9 o'clock the moment I received the message. After checking it he realized that I had received my transfer. I was very happy and thanked GiveDirectly for receiving my transfer. Immediately, I informed my husband about the great news and we started planning on how to use the transfer before withdrawing it.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I am currently living a less stressed life after taking my husband for proper medication. Presently, My spouse is feeling better after getting the right medication. I am so grateful to GiveDirectly for restoring my happiness in my life.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
My husband has been ill for some years now, diagnosed with a leg problem that rendered him unable to walk. I had wished to seek proper and advanced medical care so that he may be well and embark on his work. After receiving my transfer, I spent KES 20,000 to take him to the hospital. In addition, I used KES 10,000 to support my child's education who is in college and had a huge fee balance. Furthermore, I spent KES 9000 to purchase a modern bed and mattress since I was using sacks and a traditional bed which was uncomfortable to sleep on. The remaining amount assisted me to purchase sufficient food and water for my family since we were experiencing drought and famine in our area.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means continued education for my children. I plan to achieve it through livestock farming. I will use KES 30,000 to buy 10 indigenous goats which do well in our area. As the goats multiply I will sell at a profit and use the proceeds for domestic purposes. The remaining amount will help me to pay school fees for my son who is in his final year at college.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Last week I received relief food from Tungule foundation. I received 10 kgs of maize, 5kgs of beans which will last me for a week. This brought joy and happiness because I will be able to feed well unlike before when I could miss meals. Besides I will save around KES 1000 for other use, money that I spend for seven days.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The challenge that I am currently facing is food insecurity due to prolonged drought. It has been three years since we received reliable rainfall in our area. This has made agriculture unreliable. I am a house wife depending on charcoal production which is energy draining and the returns KES 2,400 per month is not enough to cater for all basic needs in my house. All the income I get goes into buying food and water. Due to this, l have been struggling to save money for the education of my children as well as food for my household. Sometimes, I borrow from relative, something I am ashamed of.
