How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
For the longest time now, I have wanted to renovate my house because it needed some fixing since the roof was not completely done.I also wanted to ensure that I keep my kids in school because they had a debt. Lastly I was also looking forward to finish paying dowry for my wife since I had not yet finished doing so and it was our tradition and mandatory for it to happen.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
As for me I completely praise organization because through it I was finally able to complete my house, take care of my family's nutrition and settle tuition for my children which exceeded my expectations therefore I am thankful and grateful.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
In order for my house to be completed and the roof to be fitted perfectly I bought iron sheets which cost me KES 4,000. I also decided to buy clothes for myself and my children since it had been quite a long time since I had done so, which cost me KES 5,000. Before I forget I also bought a bed and a mattress to sleep on since we didn't have one which cost me KES 8,000 and I also used KES 5,000 on nutrition.I have not yet completed my transfers but I intend on using some part of it to finish paying for my wife's dowry.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I felt so happy the moment I received money from GiveDirectly. I was at home going about my daily duties when I heard my phone ring. I was left smiling when I learnt that GiveDirectly had made good their promise of sending us money. I shared the good news with my wife who equally felt very happy on learning this
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my life is the house improvement that I did. The improved house has greatly raised my level of confidence and made me and my family a happy lot.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used KES 10000 to buy goats for keeping and used another KES 5000 to buy a door for my house. We used another KES 10000 to buy clothes for ourselves and our children and another KES 9000 to clear dowry for my wife. The remaining amount was saved as I get ready to buy a piece of land. I had not been able to accomplish all these since the casual work that I engaged in could just provide me with little income hardly enough to sustain my family. I am so grateful to GiveDirectly for enabling me realize this dream.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have the desire to start goat keeping as these animals are resistant to adverse weather patterns especially in our area which is prone to prolonged droughts and there is a readily available market for goats. Receiving this money means using 20,000 KES to buy 5 nannies and a buck. Goats can give birth twice in a year meaning within a year I will start selling them to help in settling my daily family expenses.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My entire family had one bed which I had to give to my children though in October last year(2021) I managed to purchase another bed. This brought joy and happiness to me.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Putting food on the table is my main challenge currently. Lack of rain has made my life hard as I mostly depend on farming. Lack of school fees. My three children are in primary school and they need fees. The money I get cannot buy food for them as well as pay their school fees.
