How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
The biggest difference in my life is the house which I built, I spent part of it to purchase building materials for building a new house. Before we had a smaller house which was grass touched house which was almost collapsing. The remaining amount I spend on paying school fees for my children. Before I would struggle with farming and casual jobs to meet my daily needs and pay school fees.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
I really love what Give directly did in our village. When I look across our village I can smile and when I look at the house which was built as a result of these transfer which my fellow residence. On the other hand, I do not have any negative observation which I made
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent a large portion of my second transfers on paying school fees for my son who is in college. I felt relieved after I cleared the fee balance and was allowed to sit for his final exams. I had been struggling to pay his school fees and was worried about how I would clear but thank God for Give Directly for sending us money which help me to pay the school fees.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
It had always been my prayer to live a happy life where I have my privacy but this was not possible since I was always sleeping with my daughters. I could not be able to build a house for my family due to a lack of finances as the money I usually get after doing some menial jobs around the village was not even enough to feeds us. Whenever I had visitors, I used to request my neighbors to host them and this always lowered my self-esteem. Being able to build a spacious house for my family is so far the biggest achievement in my life which has made my daily life different from how it was before.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I became so happy the moment I realized that I had received money from GiveDirectly. I knew that that was the end of my troubles as I would use the money to better my life and that of my family.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
My family has been living in a one-room grass-thatched house that served as our kitchen, bedroom and living room. This house could not accommodate us comfortably and we used to take outside some items at night. When I received my first transfer, my priority was to build a decent spacious house for my family. For this reason, I spent half of the money to buy some building materials majorly iron sheets, poles, nails to use in building a house for my family and also paid a mason for this work. Also, I used some amount on farming by hiring a tractor to till my farm, bought some maize and bean seeds and hired workers to help me with the planting work. I bought a water tank with a storage capacity of 1000 liters to use in storing water for domestic use. I used the remaining amount to buy beddings, foodstuffs, and clothes for my family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that I will finally be able to build a house for my family.I live in a small hut which is already oldand leaking.During heavy rains,we have to seek shelter at a neighbour's house at night. With this money,I will purchase building materials as well as hire someone to build. With the remaining amount,I will pay school fees for my children and also buy food.
What is the happiest part of your day?
In the morning as I wake up,am mostly happy. This is because I have not had time to think about the struggles that I will go through during the day to provide for my family. In the course of the day, reality hits especially when there are needs here and there that are pressing and need to be addressed. This makes mornings happiest part of my day
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
As a single mother, all the responsibilities in the family are on me.I have a child in college, one in primary school and one in secondary school. They need school fees, food and clothing.I have to shoulder all these on my own despite the fact that I do not have any income except for the little that my small piece of land can produce;which is hardly enough to eat and sell as well. This struggle is the biggest hardship I have faced
