At first, I had planned to use my transfers in order to buy a dairy cow. I knew that owning a dairy cow would benefit my family so much in that, we shall not need to spend any money on buying milk for household use. However, due to the prolonged drought, I changed my mind and therefore developed a new goal. The new goal was to expand my business by investing all my transfers in it. I am glad that upon channeling my transfers into the business, it is currently doing better than before. From it, I can make sales of up to KES 100,000 per day, unlike before when I could make sales ranging from KES 50,000-KES 60,000 daily.

In my opinion GiveDirectly does well in supporting all the needy in the remote areas without any form of discrimantion. As a result of the unconditional cash transfers, communities have noticed a great improvement in their living standards. The rate of children being sent home due to school fees arears has equally gone down, and this has changed the perception of our people. Since GiveDirectly staffs are uncomprised in their way of operations, I believe there is nothing that the organization does not do well.

I spent all my second transfer, KES 55,000 on expanding my business. The business mainly deals in maize and wheat flour as the key availe products. By virtue of investing in additional money in the business, it has greatly picked up and I always make sales estimate of KES 100,000 per day. As a result of the business good performance, I am optimistic that I shall soon diversify the products I sell. This will increase my source of income hence supporting my family will no longer be burdensome.

It was 9 a.m. and I was at my shop. I was going about my normal duties when I received a message notification. On checking my phone, I was met with a lovely surprise. I had received KES 55,000 from GiveDirectly. My eyes could not believe it. Joy filled my heart at the realisation that my life was about to change for the better.

Since receiving this transfer, my life has truly transformed positively. Even though I have owned my shop for a while now, the earnings have not been enough to enable me to provide food, shelter, clothing and education for my three children. I would often make a gross profit of just KES 8,000 a day, which is too little to cater for our living expenses. Thankfully, this is no longer the case. I'm now able to meet my family's needs and this makes me so happy.

My village is currently experiencing a drought. For this reason, many people are looking to stock up on food. And because I own a shop, I thought it would be a wonderful idea to invest in my business by buying more goods. So I spent KES 54,700 on foodstuff including maize, beans, rice and sugar. When the season changes, I plan to spend some of the profit made to acquire some dairy cows that can supply my family with milk.
