How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I am at my 70's of age and am feeling so strong and I can work on my farm. This is as a result of getting enough food with a balanced diet which I have been buying with part of transfers. Some of my agemates would not be able to work as I am because of my good health. With GD transfers, my life was transformed and I do not strain to do my chores as before. I am motivated to work hard and better my life for the number of days I will still be alive. I thank GD for this life-changing opportunity.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly is doing well by supporting people who are less fortunate in the community. As in my village, we have seen a great difference as one of my neighbour who had primitive shelter has upgraded their shelter to a better house.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
The second transfer which I received from GD, I spent part of it to buy a water tank for storing water for use. I also bought a solar panel and a battery for lighting in my house. I spent a large to buy materials for connecting piped water to my compound. I also bought three sacks of maize for consumption and spent the rest to pay school fees for my child.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
My new house is almost coming to completion. This makes me so happy as I know that very soon, all my worries when it rains will come to an end. It is also spacious and will accommodate all of my family members including my grandchildren who are under my care. Owning a new house has really changed my daily life as I am always happy unlike before.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 8 am when my granddaughter asked me if I had also received my transfers from GiveDirectly as many people in the village had received theirs. I then asked her to check if I had also received since she was my helper and she confirmed that I had also received. At that moment, I became so happy since I knew that I was going to achieve all of my plans with this money.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I have been living in an old house which was leaking and it was even worse during the rainy season as everything would get soaked with water. When I received my first transfers, I decided to spend part of it in buying building materials to use in building a house for my family and in paying the Marson. I spent part of the remaining amount in buying a dairy calf to since the two cows I had are the traditional ones and do not give enough milk. This cow will also act as an asset which I will use as a remembrance of GiveDirectly. I spent the remaining amount in buying maize seeds, fertilizers and in tilling my farm since it was planting season in my region and I had not even started preparing my land since I did not have any money. I also increased the size of my land under farming from one acre to two acres so as to increase my produce as I have a large family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have always yearned to practice large scale dairy farming but the breeds of cows that I own are the traditional breeds which produce little milk which are only enough for our domestic consumption. With these transfers I am going to actualize these dreams,I am going to start by selling the traditional breeds, from the money I get I am going to top up with the transfers and buy fresian cattle,In so doing I am quite certain of daily earnings that are enough to sustain my family's daily needs.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My usual day entails either taking cattle to grazing fields or tilling my land which usually has tobacco. All these I do it during morning hours and by around noon I am done.Afernoons are therefore the happiest part of my day since I am resting after completing these tasks.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The demise of my son and his wife 3 years ago is the biggest hardship I have faced. They both passed on after getting ill for a while leaving behind 3 children who are still young and really need parental love,it usually breaks my heart whenever they ask about their parents whereabouts. All the burden on meeting their daily needs is all on me despite my old age.
