How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than it would have been if I never received the transfers because I have good lighting system at home from the solar which I purchased with GiveDirectly's transfers. In the past, I exclusively depended on kerosene lamp which was not only expensive but also unsuitable for my children's study. I also have a TV which is the main source of entertainment for my children. As a matter of fact, they do not have to stay longer at my neighbor's homestead because they can watch TV programs of their preference at home. Surely, God is together with his people. I am very grateful to GiveDirectly.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly does well in considering to help the most needy community members in the villages where it works. In my village, we were living in an abject poverty since we did not have even beds, good houses, mattresses and blankets. I have never seen what GiveDirectly does not do well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my second transfer on buying steel windows and a steel door to fix in my main house. Before I received the transfers, I was living in a house where the window openings were covered by sacks thus it was extremely cold and we could shiver whenever it rained. I also spent part of the transfer on buying steel doors to replace the wooden one which was weak and made us to always feel insecure. Lastly, I used the remaining transfer to buy solar panel for lighting my house and a TV which is the main source of entertainment for my children who used to go the neighborhood to watch different TV programs. This has greatly made my life better and I feel less stressed up unlike before.

The biggest difference is that right now I am able to have a large structure that accommodates everyone in my family. In addition to that, my children are also able to go to school and attend their lesson uninterrupted unlike.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was very happy when I received the money.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I used the cash to buy new iron sheets and timber that i will use to build a new house. The one I had has become too small for my family and that is why I must get a new structure that will comfortably accommodate my expanding family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means relief from stress of school fees. I would like to clear the arrears of my daughter who is in secondary school.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning when I get some casual work to do. Casual labor is the main source of income in this community that enables me to provide basic needs for my children.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I am facing in life is lack of money to educate my children. They are usually sent home for school fees and this has interfered with their academic performance.
