How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Yes I have a new goal that I didn't have before receiving this transfer. My new goal is to attend a driving school. There're news that Western Cluster Mining Company plans to start activities in Bomi. They'll need people with vocational skills. I've therefore plan to acquire driving education/certificate so that I can have the chance of employment when the company starts recruitment.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly does well in changing people life. Prior to GiveDirectly visiting our village, my family survived primarily by burning charcoal. Through the assistance from GiveDirectly, I currently have a brand-new motorbike on traffic. I am also renovated my house with a portion of the money given by GiveDirectly. One area that GiveDirectly does not do well is to accept offer from their recipients. We are accustomed to welcoming strangers by sharing what we have with them. However, GiveDirectly did not accept any of our offer.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used my most recent transfer to renovate my house. My family lived in a mud structure before receiving this transfer. The roof was damaged ; the house leaked. So when I received my 4th transfer, I used it to change the roof as well as plaster the house with concrete.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
By the grace of the Almighty God, if I am successful to get the transfer I intend to complete my house. As you can see, the house has no doors, no ceiling and the house is not also plaster. However, the money will be a great help to me and my family in that I will be able to give them a decent dwelling place. This house was built from char coal burning that is highly labor intensive. Young Man as myself have to leave school to cater to my grand mother, Jumah Kpan and my darling wife and daughter. Things not easy right now and that my strength is filling me gradually as I age as well. The completion of the house will make me and the family very happy.
What is the happiest part of your day?
What makes me happy in the last six months is when we managed to burn char-coal and that my spouse asked that we celebrate her birthday to help us forget about some of the struggles we have been through. The char-coal produced up to 60 bags and that we were able to sell them without any losses. We celebrated her birthday on 24 August 2020 which help us overcome our stressful life at the time. We were all both happy and has since been.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Some of the major challenges facing me now is that none of my parents are alive anymore. They both died (2012 & 1999) leaving me to take care of my grand mother. This made me to dropped out of school and start hustling in my youthful age. I was even intending to go back to school but to no avail because I am the only person my grandma is depended upon. She doesn't know anyone else besides me this making it very difficult for me to forge ahead in education. Had my parents being alive, I would had achieve my dream of becoming a president of Liberia. This dream has been shattered now because of the present challenges facing me.
