How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
GiveDirectly transfers have become a starting point towards a beautiful financially stable life. I would still be wallowing in debt as I would still be taking milk and other daily food supplies on credit. When the transfers came, I bought a cow that provides the otherwise very expensive milk and reduced my daily expenditure a lot. The money instead goes to meeting other daily needs more easily than beforer I recived the transfers. I am very happy that GiveDirectly came to my village.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly does so well in delivering the promises on time. This has increased the extent of the impact of cash in peoples lives. Many have managed to turn their lives around because the money came at the time they were ready to spend on their plans. I am seeing a huge change in the village and so I can't see anything that Givedirectly does not do well on.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I used a large part of my transfer to purchase a cow. For a long time, my household has relied on buying milk from other peoples farms. This has been taking our daily household expenditure higher. I now can produce the commodity for consumption even for sale. Buying this cow cost me a huge part of my transfer but now it is a financial asset. I then used the rest of the transfer to buy utensils. My kitchen was not complete since I had very little to use in cooking and in serving food. Whenever I had visitors in my house, I had only two options: to choose between the shame of borrowing utensils from my neighbor or the embarrassment of having other people wait for others to finish eating so that I can serve them later.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
Having boosted my business with a portion of the money, it has picked so well and I'm able to comfortably meet households without asking anyone for money since I now have extra income from the business. This makes me feel independent, happy and proud. This is the biggest difference in my daily life.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was informed by my son who is a GD beneficiary that GD had sent him money. Since my phone was off, I hurriedly switched it on so that I could check if I had received money too and to my surprise, I received a confirmation message that I had received money from GD. I felt so happy, jumped up and down as I celebrated the receipt of the money.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
Previously I had two broken wooden seats which were risky sitting on because one could easily fall while sitting on them, so I spent part of the first transfer on decent seats. Aside from that, the nature of my work requires that I close very late at night and it was hectic looking for firewood later in the night for cooking, so I bought a gas cooker which has eased my work while cooking. A portion of the money I spent on hair products which I've added to the few hair productsI had to boost my business.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
My ambition is to have my own hairdressing shop. I have a talent in beauty and modeling but I lack capital to buy the needed equipment. My plan is to buy the required equipment like blow dry and dryer. This will attract more customers as I will be able to model the latest fashions that have good payments. This will increase my income hence be able to pay school fees for my children, food and clothes.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening. This is when I get paid for the beauty services I offer to the hairdressing shop and buy food for my family. The essence of provision to my family brings me joy and happiness.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I am facing is lack of capital to start my own business. I usually offer hairdressing services through other people's shops who pay me on commission basis. This is too little and is never enough to meet my family's basic needs like food and clothes. On a bad day, I return home without a penny and this means no food for my children.
