Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received the transfer I felt so happy. I remember it was around 8:40 am. I was cleaning the utensils. I heard my neighbors celebrating. Then immediately I heard my message tone from my phone. I knew it was from GiveDirectly. When I Check it out I couldn't believe my eyes. It was a message confirming that I have received money from GiveDirectly. I inform my family members and they all celebrated with lots of joy. I knew I would be able to buy a dairy cow. I am so happy because GiveDirectly has changed our living standards.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have purchased a dairy cow. I used to buy milk daily and this was so costly for me. I depend on small scale farming and my tailoring work. The amount of money that I get through this is so small and it's only for household basic needs. I didn't had an extra income to purchase a dairy cow. Whenever I had no money I was not able to get milk. This was so demoralizing and stressful. When I received the money from GiveDirectly I found it wise to buy a dairy cow. Currently I no longer stress up on where to get money for milk. My children get enough milk and I sell the surplus milk to earn an income to meet other household needs. I have devoted much of my time on this amazing dairy project. I am so grateful for the support because GiveDirectly has changed our living standards.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent KES 32,000 to purchase a dairy cow. I used to buy milk daily and this was so costly for me. I bought wire mesh, nails and poles. Then later I get someone to fence my compound. This was to prevent cows and goats from destroyed my crops. I plough my farm and planted maize. The rest of the money I bought food and clothes for my children. I am so grateful because GiveDirectly has enabled us to fulfilled our dreams.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Recieving this money means it will boost me in paying for the accumulated school fees to my children and buy three dairy cows. I have been living a single mother of five children after I lost my husband through a road accident in 19 years ago, since then I decided to buy a tailoring machine and started a small business in a nearby town. I plan to spend KES 60,000 to pay for school fees and spend the remaining in purchasing 3 dairy cows that will produce milk for my children and sell the surplus to the market for other needs in the house.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My happiest part is during the day when I am running my business, this is when I receive customers and since I enjoy my business I become happy as the day will be busy to me and also know that this will result to the profit I will get at end of the day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Since I lost my husband who was our bread winner at all times, life has not been easy in raising my children in school and providing them with basic needs. I had to go an extra mile and started tailoring business in a nearby center, whatever little I get from the business get depleted as the needs from my home are overwhelming to me. I always struggle so hard to make the ends meet to my family.
