How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
The greatest impact is that the cash transfers were spent on purchasing livestock that were given to my parents as bride price. In addition to this, we are healthy and happy because we feed and sleep well. Previously, I was over burdened by my parents who kept on demanding for bride price.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly does well to send money directly to the poor without using any government entities. There is no wrong doing that I have seen connected to GiveDirectly.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent the second to purchase two cows worth UGX 1000000. I spent UGX 200000 for the traditional marriage fines. I purchased a solar system worth UGX 150000 and a radio worth UGX 15000. The balance was spent on food and clothes.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
My life has changed because this cash transfer has made me to repossess my farm land which I had used as security for the loan. I no longer have to rent farm land to cultivate. Previously, I rented farm land which were far away from home and more so the owner would ask for their land before the crops mature.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I felt very excited to hand such an amount of money which was going to help me pay off the debt I had and acquire household goods like chairs, tables and utensils.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I bought clothing/ household goods (mattress, 2 blankets, 3 chairs, table, utensils, bed sheets and food basket) worth UGX 300,000 and paid a debt of UGX 800,000 and repossessed my farm land. The recipient spent some money on food but could not tell how much was spent. There is a balance of UGX 200,000 which I'm planning to spend on buying Livestock (goats).

What does receiving this money mean to you?
When I receive this money, I will build an iron sheets roofed house. The house we are currently living in is grass thatched and leaks whenever it rains. So the house we shall build will help us save some money that we have been spending on grass almost after every year. The balance will be used to pay a debt so that we regain our piece of land that we had staked as collateral.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is afternoon because its the time I have to take care of my children and prepare food for my husband.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced in my is lack of money. This follows a long dry season that saw us not planting any crops that would be our source of income. Thats why we even had to stake some piece of land as collateral to borrow money.
