My life is currently different from how it was in that, I have ownership of a cow. I did not have one before. Today, I maximize the morning hours by selling milk. After that, I have time to take care of my farm activities. This is way better than before where I could concentrate on casual work almost the whole day to fend for my family.

In my opinion, what GiveDirectly did well was uplifting the living standards of many people in our village. Most of us built better houses and bought cows. I am glad that some sell milk to take care of their family's needs. The best part of it is that it is not a loan that we had to repay.

I spent part of my transfer to build an extra room for my visitors. I had one house which could not accommodate visitors at night. They could spend the night at the neighbor's house. Those were the stressful days because I could feel embarrassed when I had visitors around and make them sleep on the neighbor's place. I am glad that I finally solved this issue with the transfer that I got. I also kept some savings hoping to build a kitchen coop. Right now, I have five hens and they sleep in the kitchen. The remaining amount was spent on food and paying school fees for my children.

The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have bought a dairy cow. I used to buy milk from my neighbor and it was so costly for me. I depend on casual jobs in the village and the amount of money I get is not enough to meet all the basic needs including buying a cow. At some point, I explain to my neighbor what I was going through and he gave me a dairy cow with a condition that he will come for it anytime in case an emergency arise at his homestead. This has reduced the cost of buying milk. My worry was that incase he come back and take the cow. I am so happy now I have my own and I have enough milk form,y family and I live withough any worry. I do sell the surplus milk at the shopping center and I earn an income to meet other basic household need that I have. I no longer do much of the casual jobs, I have devoted most of my time on my own farm. I am so much grateful for the money sent from GiveDirectly because it has changed our living standard.

I felt so happy the moment I received my first transfer because I have never received such amount of money before. I remember it was very early in the morning when I was taking my breakfast.
